Something like Giroux and Braun for Girard, 2023 first, Flyers retain half salary for both Giroux and Braun.

Colorado has Barron ready to hop in Girard’s place next season

Barron Is not even close to Sammy’s level and doubt he ever get to that level. Something around JT or Jost plus picks and include a 3rd team for salary dump. Jost experiment is over and JT never showed any consistency

Giroux at 50% retention. Compher back as the salary part. Then add the picks and prospects.

Why not just give up Jost or JT for Copp?

Better not bump Nichushkin down the depth chart.

Sending Burakovsky and Jost should just about make the money work, plus rid the Avs of two who don't consistently add anything. Burakovsky is going to be shoved down the depth chart with Giroux anyway. This way the Avs don't have to give up Girard or draft picks they don't really have.

When I look at the Avs, and I look often, the only true issue 'might' be in net. Sakic simply has no huge need to do anything......so if he does, it will be a trade that favors the Avs. I see nothing happening, Sakic stays with his current roster.

Jost, JT, Girard are the only 3 I can see being part of any trade that Joe makes .

I think this is a pipe dream. Why is Sakic going to give up a top 4 defenseman in the deal?

What's in that for the Flyers? More middling players?

Why not tweak a great lineup? Chariot and Copp maybe. I’d entertain Girard plus for Chychrun and we have seen teams hammer in on Girard in the playoffs, his 3 foot stick pokes don’t work in playoff hockey. Avs do need a steller faceoff guy Which is why Copp would be a great 3rd line center, slide Newhook to the wing along with LOC, that leaves JT & or Jost for 4th line (who ever isnt traded) with NAK and Helm / Kermit

Girard isn't going anywhere--there's no way Sakic messes with his top 4 D. Plus the guy is signed until 2027 at $5 million per. Newhook and Byram are likely untouchable. although the latter's concussion issues are worrisome. With a top 4 D signed through 2023 plus a blue chip prospect like Byram in the wings, Barron could be the odd man out.

Fletcher has stated "aggressive retool" as opposed to "rebuild." Therefore Colorado's 2023 (and later) pick(s) are of less interest and also likely to be late in their respective rounds. The Avs don't have a 2022 first- or second- (or even fourth-) rounder. Presumably Fletcher isn't foolish enough to take back a third-liner with term and little upside like Compher (at least without serious sweeteners) as he tries to clear cap space.

Not sure I see a deal here unless the Avs are willing to give up Barron, or the Flyers don't take on a salary dump.

I think Helleson would be the big piece of the return. He's right shot and would be reunited with his USNTDP D partner, Cam York. For a couple months plus retention of a 34 y/o Claude Giroux, Helleson and a pick is about Sakic will offer.

For the 1000th time, think about the rental trades that have happened over the years. When did a player of Newhook or Girard's quality go for a 34 y/o rental? I'd really like to know.

Remember when a 28 y/o Taylor Hall, 2 years removed from a Hart Trophy was going to get multiple 1st's and high end prospects? The Devils got a 1st, a 3rd, and some assorted crap (Bahl, Merkley +) that still isn't playing much in the NHL 3 years later. They didn't get a Top 4 NHL D or a Top 9 NHL Center from the roster of the team with the best points % in the league (i.e. really good young players sitting in prime spots of a really good roster). Philly is not getting Sam Girard or Alex Newhook.
