I really really really really want the Canucks to win today. So naturally they’ll disappoint. |

we got spanked by the Islanders so I'll expect a better effort. The Leafs are a good reg. season team however will say 4-2 Leafs. Petey and Boeser score on PP. A touch short. |

But yet many in here (yes many...) advocated the trade at the time. Garland was the target and as stated OEL we needed to take coming back to dump those three contracts. People here just still need a reason to b!tch cry and whine no matter what so OEL is the new LE... - LordHumungous
Agreed – OEL is the new LE because he's overpaid and has a terrible contract the Canucks didn't need on the books
I'm just saying, that you're advocating patience with the OEL contract, and that's exactly what the others were saying with the LE/Beags/Rous contracts. The Canucks would have been much less constrained just to ride those out.
Do I think they're a more competitive team with OEL and Garland? Hell ya. But as you mentioned in one of your other posts, they're fighting for a WC spot... so how competitive is that really? |

Yeah, OEL ain't a fine bottle of wine. He ain't getting better with age.
Hockey is filled to the brim with unrealistic motherfu ckers. Motherfu ckers who thought their ass would age like wine. If you mean it turns to vinegar, it does. If you mean it gets better with age, it don't. |

I'm so tired of not being able to troll with confidence. Every team we play against it seems like we are the underdog. Hate it. |

No trade would mean more cap & probably picked Guenther. We would be much weaker without OEL taking shutdown mins & down Garland in top 6-9.
So extra cap would be great but suffering with 3 deadweights would drive us nuts. Patience tested. What would that cap be used on & who would wanna come here if we sucked big like we would have? |

What has OEL not done to get this criticism? Hughes gets most of the prime PP. OEL has been very steady & calm & a big reason 5v5 is so good. Insulated Hughes with less load on facing OPS top lines. |

Declining point totals over the past 5 seasons:
42
44
30
24
13 (and counting but on pace for 24 points again)
At the same time his salary has gone up:
$6.5M
$7.0M
$8.0M
$8.0M
$10.5M
IMO, at first glance, not a great look. If you're going to earn top dollar in the NHL you got to be more than an "insulator" for someone else. Hell, Luke Schenn has been a good "insulator" and he's earning $850K? |

Yes but ignoring Hughes gets the PP & it affects points. Who would you pay to replace OEL or would you rather Hughes face top lines?
Just asking cuz I don’t think OEL has disappointed & is fitting in nicely & steadily getting better. |

As I said, we are a better team at the moment with them on it. But that "better team" is still a playoff bubble team that sold a bit of their future to push up their mediocrity now.
It's impossible to guess what would have happened if that trade didn't happen, as there are so many compounding factors. Who they would have brought in, other trades being made, team moral, firings, etc. OEL is on the team now, I like him and Garland, just not the contract attached to OEL or the situation around bringing them in. |
