as per Shief rumor's, maybe that's why Dorian was scouting us for two games. Major Shief to Ottawa trade coming this summer. just like when Dorian over paid for Duchene he can now with Shief. With 2 years left on his deal at a great price and being a southern Ontario kid, seems like a Dorian target, could make some sense???
I'd take Norris plus in a heartbeat. |

Right now we have two basic plays for getting across the opposing blue line:
1) 55 carries across the line and drop passes to 26 (or 26 to 55)
2) 81 carries across the line and stops and tight turns to look to hit the trailer on the play.
Not hard for other teams to figure out.

Interesting thought. I really wouldn't be opposed to seeing it happen, of course depending what the package is. I can see no other reason for the Sens to be scouting the Jets, unless, of course, they are looking for someone (Harkins, Vesalainen, etc) to replace a Tierney, or whoever they deal at the deadline.
Regardless I think the Jets are sellers now. Copp, because of contract, should be first to go. I think teams like Florida and the Rangers will covet Dillon as well. Both should draw a very good return. |

The Jets have to be sellers as they just don't have the right mix of players to make a playoff run this season. |

This team doesn’t need a full blown rebuild.. but definitely a re-tool. |

I believe the Scheif rumour. Sad as he has been entertaining but he has had a burr under his saddle for some time now apparently.
So, hopefully this mgmt has the where with all to do some serious selling and stock up prior to the deadline. Might as well go young again as Copp likely won't re-sign after arbitrations he has went through, now the Scheif rumour, Dillon, Schmidt, Stanley as much as I like him if the deal is right. Vesalainen is a bust as far as I am concerned.
Make some hay. Play the kids and assess what you got instead of leaving them in the A forever and mismanage assets which this organization has done in the past.
But if this mgmt comes back again with the same coaching staff, then someone needs recommend Chipman to go and get a mental assessment. |

Definitely not the right mix of players. funny thing is that the mix of talent is ok it is more that the effort is not consistent and that is a leadership thing. Maybe Ross has been on the right track and 55 is an issue. |

I am making a prediction in that Jets don't make the playoffs but Wpg hockey fans get to watch Moose go deep.
A good Moose squad which be bolstered further with Perfetti, Brooks, Nathan Smith (if he signs), Samberg, Reichel, etc. and playoff hockey lives in Wpg via the "A". |

Trading Scheifele would be the biggest mistake this franchise would ever make. I would fire the entire coaching staff and Chevelallseasonoff before I even entertain that idea.
Scheifele has been the teams MVP for the most of his career! |

But if he doesn't want to be a Jet anymore (I'm just speculating that but he's clearly not the Scheifele of old)
then what do you do??
Also he'll be 31 when he signs his next contract, really I wouldn't think that'll be a contract that'll age well, might be best to move on before that time comes.
I know you love #55 but if he isn't happy it doesn't help anyone involved. |

The Jets finally have a 1-2 punch at center. No other player on this team has the ability to play center as well as Scheifele. Scheifele has never expressed unhappiness. |

No way Ottawa does this. Norris has a ceiling that will be about where Scheifele has been over the past few years, is younger, and has great chemistry. Norris is also quite responsible defensively. With a C depth of Norris, Stutzle, Pinto, Greig, and White, Ottawa is certainly not looking to add a center. Though it could make for a good trade partner, I don't see Ottawa wanting that.

Yes, The 1 - 2 center punch is the one aspects that strings if he does want out.
It has been interesting progression as when Laine was drafted, Scheifle was watching the invited prospects games and practices like a hockey nerd. Fast forward to when the Jets got put out in 2019 and he sat down at the end of the table for the media and wouldn't even speak. He was obviously not wanting to be there, then Tkachuk takes him out the next year and plays 5 minutes in the plays ins, then takes himself out with a needless hit to the Canadiens player (can't recall his name) and is suspended.
No doubt he has been entertaining and is highly skilled, and maybe or likley he has been frustrated with coaching and management, who knows, but he seems like a different individual today then he was 4 years ago.
If they do end up trading him, it will have to be a big haul as where do you pick up a #1 centre with 2 remaining years at 6 mill? |

some Shiefele stats from an older Murat article and NHL.com
Goal Differential from 2018/19 season to now for centers.
Shief ranks - 56th
but if you rank ice time he is 3rd ( lol)
list of top 50 NHL centers, as sorted by the “even strength defense” component of Evolving Wild’s Wins Above Replacement (WAR) model.
are you ready.... Shief ranks 268th...wow!!!!
Shief can score and produce offense, we all know this but is he a top center, no, he just isn't. Maurice can take some blame for over playing him but at this point in his career he is a 2nd line ( at best ) Center or a top line RW but no matter where you play him his D is poor and comes at a cost of most of his Offense.

not publicly but that means nothing, I mean even Evander Kane who asked for a trade for three straight years never went public. |

you could be right, but be careful, your Ottawa fan ness creeped out there a bit( just kidding with ya ) I am gambling a bit on the Dorian factor and using the Duchene trade ( which he never should have made as an example ) at some point the Sens will have to trade some youth for players like Shief with term, history of some great play, a good contract and the option of being flipped if he wont re sign. need a btter ballance of youth with some vets. and White and spare parts wont get it done. I wonder if Scmidt could be an option for the Sens as well ? |

Greig is likely going to be an NHL winger, just because the C spots are so plugged up. Pinto will be a very high end 3C, but could be a very serviceable 2C. A Pageau type player who is arguably a better two way guy. Very responsible defensively and a faceoff wizard. Fun fact about Pinto, he didn't start playing competitive hockey until he was 15. |

When you describe Pinto i thought of Gustafson, I project Gus the same, if winnipeg gives him a chance.

This was evident in the conference you speak off. Maurice spoke about “ruffled feathers”. I think Scheifele as well as the majority of Jets players are tired of this coaching staff. |

Could the overplaying have cost him defensively? I have been highlighting his excessive usage for years. It’s unfortunate that poor coaching has turned him into the player he is. |

Hearing that Copp is skating in a non contact jersey at practice, Reichel got injured against Calgary and is out two weeks, Samberg and Seuss are in regular contact jerseys AND Beaulieu was taking reps on the 3rd pair with Schmidt....
So the lineups are sounding like this:
Stastny-55-26
Svech-PLD-Connor
Harkins-Lowry-Brooks
Toninato-Gus-Poganski
44-DeMelo
Dillon-Pionk
Beaulieu-Schmidt
*Not sure about that 4th line it might be Vesalainen in and Gus out but pretty sure it's how I have it here.
Edit: Vesalainen is in so line 4 is- Vesa-Toninato-Poganski |
