There's no situation where Vladar is bringing back a first-round pick, especially not from Edmonton or Toronto. You know two goalies who were fantastic until they were asked to carry the team? Koskinen and Campbell. Both have stolen plenty of games, even Rittich stole a ton, until they were given the full workload. No one is trading for Vladar with the intention of him being their number one in the playoffs, and no one is trading a first-round pick for a backup.
It also doesn't make sense for the Flames to trade Vladar right now unless they'd rather have a proven vet as a back-up, but I have no idea who that even could be. Vladar's been great for them and he's someone they probably have some faith in if the unspeakable happens.
Wolf also doesn't need to be sitting on the bench for the rest of the year. Let him try for a Calder Cup.
Maybe in the offseason, a team would be willing to buy high on Vladar if they're looking for a 1B situation or a less competitive team will want to take a big swing. Maybe Vladar could be the sweetener to get someone to take Monahan. |

-The downfall of Manson is that while he’s a good PK’er he often finds himself in the box as well. Would be interesting what happens as the whistles go away in the playoffs.
-Lindholm likely goes for a lot more than that and I’m not sure the price would be worth it when we’re fully healthy. I would much prefer going for a number 7 D like kulak or someone who’s a righty as we have much less options if one of tanev, andersson or Gudbranson goes down.
-Also if we manage to stay fully healthy I think the team needs another top 9 forward before a D-man.
-As discussed with monohan he has an NTC so it would be optimistic to think he may be willing to waive for a better role there.
-Vlader has been good but nobody’s giving us a first for him for a playoff run. I do think that he does have a market in the off-season though for a rebuilding team like Buffalo that doesn’t have playoff expectations for next season. Maybe nets us a 2nd or a 3rd but if we keep him he does carry a cheaper cap hit than wolf so he might be more valuable to us that way |

Is it that unrealistic? Until we see market precedent set by a goalie trade; we can’t really discount the price of a late first.
Let’s look at this year’s prime goalie candidates to move at the deadline.
Alexander Giorgiev — RFA at season’s end and guaranteed a minimum 2.425 million in his next contract. Ultimately worse numbers than Vladar this season — although a lot can be blamed on the defence in front of him. 3.15GAA and .893 save percentage over 26 games.
Braden Holtby — UFA at season’s end. Currently paid two million. Good numbers:2.78GAA, .913 over 24 games — albeit with the support of a very conservative system in front of him. He’s listed as day-to-day currently, which may scare off suitors. Also Nill might not be interested in moving him given the Stars are still in the picture.
Marc-Andre Fleury — UFA at season’s end. Easily the best goalie “available” and rumoured to cost a 1st+. It’s already highly in doubt he accepts a trade to Canada.
Jonas Korpisalo — UFA at season’s end. Having a rough year statistically. 3.82GAA and a .887 save percentage. Current cap hit is 2.8 million.
Ilya Samsonov — RFA at season’s end. Due for a raise from his 2 million dollar salary. Very similar numbers to Vladar. 2.93 GAA, .901 save percentage.
Given that Fleury isn’t interested and the others (Holtby aside) are going to be far more expensive next season; I don’t agree that a late first is an unrealistic price. That extra year at 750K makes him a more attractive asset than everyone listed except Fleury. |

You are spot on Trevor, with Vlad’s cap hit and teams looking for a reliable goalie. I don’t see a late 1st rounder not being a problem. Keep up the good work I always look forward to you’re blogs. |

Yes, it is.
Besides Korpisalo, everyone you listed is far more valuable to a playoff team because GMs put a major emphasis, probably too big of an emphasis, on experience. Vladar has 15 NHL games and has only played two in a row twice. He also doesn't really have any playoff experience at any level besides 3 games in the ECHL.
Toronto is probably the hardest place to play since all the national media coverage focuses on them nonstop. Do you really think Dubas is going to risk his job on hoping Vladar can carry the Leafs through the playoffs? Edmonton's not much better. They've been ruining running goalies for years.

How can anyone think Vladar is a reliable goalie? He's played 20 games as a backup. He has great upside and if he finishes this year strong, the Flames can probably move him for something decent in the summer.

I think trading vladar would be a mistake, not to suggesting markstrom gets hurt but really I would want someone who has a clue how the flames play rather than risk it all on wolf, he would get what? 5 starts? 6 most thats not enough in case. The flames could use a first yes but they dont need it that badly. Stand pat not screw it up with a risk. |

A- because he is a complete flames homer and blinded by the jersey.
B- because he tends to be a complete idiot who thinks the flames 3rd liners are more valuable than the other teams 1st liners.
1230 thinks Monahan is fair value for Draisaitl since they both have played 2c. 1230 is possibly the most ignorant and stupid person on this site. Including Ek and the Leafs fans. |

At this point Vladar is a possible 1b for a team looking for a tandem. He is not a potential 1a or 1 yet for anyone as he has not been relied upon for multiple games at a time. He has shown to be a solid backup twice. Increase his workload and he may be considered more than just a backup. Thinking he would get a 1st is ridiculous at this time. |

All those guys have either battled for the 1 spot or been a #1. Vladar has never done either.
He may be competent down the road but he hasn't been there yet. At this time Vladar is a 2. a good 2. but still just a 2 until he proves otherwise. |

A first for a back-up goalie is a pipe dream. Let me ask you this, when was the last time it happened? Has it happened ever? Not saying some GM won't be stupid enough to do it at some point, and Edm has been the home of many stupid GM's, but that would be a horrible look even for Holland. Skinner is already a better option than Vladar, they just don't seem to want to even give him a chance. |

Can't see why Calgary would want to trade Vladar ? under contract for another year at league min...the Flames need that. IMO the Flames need a centre. How about packaging Monahan with a recent no. 1 pick to get a solid Centre ? That would also free up cap space going forward to resign everyone. They'd have to say good bye to Coronado or Pelletier/Zary but this team is in win now mode. IMO if they can get Giroux for that, I'd do it. |

Martin Jones was traded for a first, but he'd had a much better AHL career at that point. Cory Schneider was kind of a backup. |

They trade him if the value they're getting back to too high for a guy they may not be invested in long term. If they could package him with Monahan and Dube to bring back someone like Domi or Kessel, that would solve a lot of problems at once.

Domi would be a great 3rd line center, he’s a ufa at the end of the season and could probably b had relatively cheap. Dube and FLORIDAS 2nd? I don’t think they’ll move Monahan or can move him this year, he’s been a big part of this group and is probably well liked, besides we need that truculence on the 4 th line. |

Absolutely no to trading Vladar. Wolf is untested for the NHL let alone playoffs & year end stretch. Let him go be successful & long playoff run in the AHL. Then let Wolf & Vladar compete for backup next year. If Wolf needs a few years seasoning, I can see a Wolf/Vladar tandem in the future.
Personally, I dont see the need for Flames to spend assets on any other pieces at this point. The price of some of our key players is about to go up next year (fingers crossed Treliving gets them all signed) & we will need a number of the ELC guys playing well in Stockton to fill out our roster. |

We don't have a lot of space to work with. Seems like Kylington is back, since Mackey has been sent back down. The area we are struggling with the most is not really having a winger to go with Toffoli. Mangiapane-Ruzie-Toffee works, but may not leave Backlund with enough. Perhaps we could trade Dube for Jarnkrok + Lauzon.
Gives us a 7th D-man plus a C/W that could fit in the top 9. Allows us to have a few options for the bottom 9.:
Coleman-Backlund-Jarnkrok
Mangiapane-Ruzie-Toffee
Lucic-Monahan-Lewis
or
Coleman-Backlund-Toffee
Mangiapane-Ruzie-Jarnkrok
Lucic-Monahan-Lewis
or
Mangiapane-Backlund-Toffee
Coleman-Ruzie-Jarnkrok
Lucic-Monahan-Lewis
or even
Mangiapane-Backlund-Toffee
Monahan-Jarnkrok-Lewis

It was a close game, 2nd half of a back to back with the backup goalie while the Avs were at home resting. Flames still had 46 shots
EN goal makes it seem more lopsided, was a one goal game in the third against the top team in the league under unfavorable circumstances.
Flames are one of the few teams to win in Dever already this season
