Better of late and Calgary betting on a return to form. I do agree he should do better in Sutter’s system there. He had a chance to really be a solid contributor, and I think Francis took him with that in mind. It definitely didn’t work out that way.
Its a huge deal for Francis. Definitely a much needed homerun on getting 3 picks for him.
Gio scratched and out, asking price was a first at least but have to figure its set pick and prospect minimum now to acquire and may be more depending on any kind of bidding war as the defencemen are grabbed up. |

It's a decent deal for both teams. Late 2nd (FLA) and a 3rd next year. The 7th is for cap purposes. Jarnkrok's ability to play on his off wing adds to roster flexibility. I expect he's used to solidify the defensive part of any line he plays on. Would be nice to be able to use him on the 2nd PP unit, but I doubt he's that effective in that role.
Much better deal than the Pitlick trade, who strangely enough was part of the Toffoli trade. Lots of picks give up over the year, but we look to be at worst a 24th pick this year. At least trending that way.

Love the trade for Seattle. 3 picks and the best pick in 2023. I think most scouts and GMs don't care for this draft. Well played Francis. |

Oh I misread it. I thought they were swapped. I should check my facts before posting! lol
But now you mention it, for argument's sake, could it be? Here's a devil's advocate take:
If GM's believe the 2022 is a crapshoot and the 2023 draft is projected to be better maybe that's it? Also, we know the Flames are playing real well this year. The second will be later. Could the Flames be extinguished a bit in 2023? Maybe (doubt it but perhaps) and make the pick a little better?
Either way, I like the deal for Seattle a lot. It's good for the Flames too as no roster player given up but Seattle needs the picks.

Its a solid pick up for Calgary and just hope he regains his form. He was not great in Seattle. Wrong fit totally. He should fit far better in Sutter's system. Calgary got a good pick up and given his family member there too he will be happier which hey iit does help a guy settle in and play.
Francis getting multiple picks hit a huge home run here for Seattle. They need to draft well and get that input of bodies and talent developing and coming along here. It's a pretty good win win and I'm very happy with the deal from a Kraken standpoint.

GMs aren't worrying about how the drafts are projected to be and shouldn't be. Every draft is a crapshoot after the first 10-15 picks anyway. You can usually figure out how strong the top of a draft is and that's about it. If Francis could get all the picks for this summer's draft, he would've, but the Flames aren't trading their entire draft for Toffoli and Jarnkrok |

I would disagree on your first sentence. GMs project all the time and the things being written is it's believed the 2022 draft isn't great and the 2023 draft is projected to be better. All speculation of course.
Also, I would think any GM would stagger picks instead of all in the same year due to handling contracts, development, etc.

Big moves. I like the Gio and Blackwell to Toronto deals. Again, recouping picks. I would have tried to steal a prospect if possible too but picks are fine. Gio was never going to be long term plans for Seattle so it made sense. |

It’sca very solid all around deal for both teams. For the Kraken its three picks that will help stock the team up here. And that should be very good. Have a feeling there will be a few more moves as well before 3pm monday. Francis still has a number of moveable pieces.
Oilers apparently interested in Soucy for instance, much as I hope the Kraken do keep him. If they were going to mive someone Id hope its Lauzon honestly. |

I would like to see the Kraken acquire a couple prospects if possible. To be fair to Seattle, they can make moves at the draft too where more teams might be in on some guys.
They can't trade every piece but they could trade Soucy if they feel a younger guy can come back in the deal or have a young guy who can play in the line up.
Actually, I hope they take on some 2024 draft picks to be a 3rd team in retention deals.
They currently have 4 picks in the first two rounds of each of the next drafts and 11/10 total in each of them. Real good starts here with those. |

The #SeaKraken have a boatload of draft picks over the next 3 drafts:
1st: 3x
2nd: 7x
3rd: 5x
4th: 5x
5th: 3x
6th: 3x
7th: 4x
Thirty (30) total!
They also have not traded away a single draft pick of their own in any of the coming 3 drafts.
I’d agree on having a few prospects tossed in now but Francis has done well adding to the pick pool. Has said they would be active in FA too so hopefully a whole lot better than this first season too.

Yeah I like those drafts coming up. Man, he should look to Vegas and try to pry a young forward or someone out of there.
They could probably STEAL Patches if he waived his no trade.

Get the feeling Francis wants to build from young guys and prospects. Im expecting more moves but have to wait and see really. I think he will hoard those picks and just go in hard in the offseason to rebuild the roster.

Could be right but I mean, take on patches full 7 million. Could cost 2nd and 3rd or something and then maybe flip him for a first and prospect at the deadline?
Either way, I'd like him to use his cap space tomorrow to help some trades and grab a pick or two. Hell, Dubas did it in the Lehner trade to Vegas a few years back.

Well Lauzon shipped off to Nashville for another 2nd rd pick in 2022! So added another one here.
Wasn't a big fan of him and he sort of tailed off as Soucy got going and better and had dropped to third pairing with Dunn so....
Down to 6 d and 11 forwards right now though expecting Beniers might get into some games here. |

I wouldn't be surprised if Francis grabbed a roster player or two, some "ready" prospects.
I don't think he has the pieces to get Chychrun but what a move it would be!

Hi, I'm here.
I don't know a lot about Seattle. Seen them play a few times. Obviously vs the Canucks and other periods here and there.
There was a discussion about Vince Dunn earlier today though. |

Yeah wouldn't surprise me. Lind can come up far as forward and all. There's a few they can yank up but surprised he hasn't gotten a prospect or two honestly here.

Maybe they aren't trading them? There has been a LOT of picks traded but not a lot of prospects. Leafs didn't even give one up in their deal.
