Make no mistake. We’re the ones in the embarrassing spot both literally and figuratively. Heehawing about that win is so 90’s islanders.

One step further away from an higher draft pick.

If I knew how, I would

I know there's a website where I can re-size gifs, but oddly enough I'm not sure how to do it with a regular jpeg

After Top 3 or 4 the crap-shoot increases like roaches in a Chinese Restaurant. Play the games to win and build for next year. New building, need the real fans in the seats. I am done with draft picks, trade them to improve the team for next year.

I'm actually happy they're turning it on now. We all know they're better than this season has gone and it's good to see that they can still play the way that got them to the conference finals two years in a row. A high draft pick isn't stepping in right away and making a big difference. We're probably more likely to move the pick for a player if it's in the middle of the 1st round anyway

Yeah that’s fine also but the higher they are the more they’re worth. I know some/most will disagree but I’m all about giving us the best shot at Wright. Slim chance I know but I’m all about giving us the best odds.

I have a different view. These are the same players that underperformed. I’m not exactly enamored with the idea of some of them returning for that reason. I’m not saying blow up the team by any means but some of these guys showing up when the playoffs are out of reach isn’t exactly great to me. They need to show up when it matters and I have the opinion that the negative we saw earlier in the season will resurface again if we keep more or less the same personnel. This team needs some changes to compete in this division next season imo.

I generally mean the core of the team and the system they play. I'm not saying they shouldn't upgrade/make changes, but they're not as bad as they've played for a large chunk of the season.

I do think next season will be make-or-break, in terms of what direction they're heading in. If they get back to being a competitive team suited for playoff hockey then they're still in the fight. But another year like this and I start to have doubts about the long-term projection of the team as-assembled.

I get this and don’t disagree but I think everyone has a different idea of who exactly is, or I should say would be part of the core.

In years past, I’ve spent far too time celebrating losses in the hope for higher draft picks. I’m done with that nonsense.

I’m not exactly celebrating losses as much as I’m not cheering meaningless wins. It’s not a big secret this team needs young talent and drafting higher in the first round is the best way to make that happen. It also doesn’t cost us anything and commits the player to us at low cost for a few years. All of the above are things this team needs imo. We’re not making the playoffs finishing close does this team no favors.

Problem is that, outside of maybe Shane Wright, nobody taken in this first round is playing in the NHL next year. Which means they're 2-3 years away from even getting into the system, let alone the NHL.

It probably takes 7-8 years total from draft day before you even know what you have in a player. Wahlstrom/Dobson were taken 5 years ago and are still developing.

Outside of the top 2 or 3 selections, most guys take a lot of time to develop. And I'm big on having a good pipeline of prospects, but right now it seems like they should be all aboard the "win-now" train while they can be.

Unfortunately, that train left the station months ago without them.
