Is the RFA from Tampa something I can at least pretend to be excited about? |

Good God... Considering what's been thrown around, the Paul return is frigging tragic. Absolutely perplexing. PD is not on thin ice, he's waist deep in the pond. |

Hamonic played under Capuano in NYI. If another Sens coach tells PD what to do with acquiring players again, he should be fired on the spot!

Travis Hamonic agent Kevin Epp - I think Travis is disappointed, the team is pushing for playoffs and he wanted to be apart of that. Travis played hard in Vancouver, we kind of new a defenseman was leaving VAN for cap reasons.
Just like Sanford, Hamonic doesn't want to be here! Does PD ever do his homework? I worry that PD thinks this is the top 4 defenseman they have talked about acquiring lol all year! |

I'm going to look at this with rose-coloured glasses. Paul and Dorion verbally agreed to a deal, but Paul wants to try to win a Stanley Cup. Dorion does him a favour to see if he can win a Cup and he signs back with the Sens in the summer, bringing the experience/energy of a successful playoff run back to the locker room.
...
right?????
I'm fine with Hamonic because right now he's our best defenseman. That's how much Ottawa sucks right now.
Joseph I think will be better offensively than Paul, but Paul was great on PK w/ Brown/Formenton... but we'll see how he adapts to Smith's coaching. |

No.
Seems that what I and others have said about the Sens wanting to not call up anyone from Belleville was true, and its affecting the return of trades so far. |

No doubt it is, I mentioned this in my last blog but why is it happening now, tmrw would be better due to what teams are paying for players, etc....the mere fact they gave up a pick for Hamonic who already doesn't want to be here, marvelous!

Hamonic 1.25M bonus on July 1st, Zaitsev 2.5M bonus on July 1st. |

2020-21 Tampa Bay Lightning NHL GP 56 G 12 A 7 P 19
2021-22 Tampa Bay Lightning NHL GP 58 G 8 A 10 P 18
He's actually worse offensively and doesn't do any of the other things Paul could.
Right now our best defenseman is Zub followed by Holden. Hamonic doesn't want to be here but that's not unusual because he always griped when he was with the Islanders. I don't know how to post an image or I would post the shot concentrations against with Hamonic both on and off the ice when he was in Vancouver. This guy will make Josh Brown look like a Norris candidate. |

Chabot and Joseph are friends apparently? That likely played a part....... |

All other GMs know that they're dealing with an incompetent fool and that his only purpose is to make moves at any cost in order to not be accused of doing nothing. For them it's like shooting fish in a barrel. |

I had a reader tweet me a message about this from Marc Methot! Ughh....makes you wonder what PD is thinking more and more!
"It’s a weird acquisition, for sure. I honestly haven’t followed the on ice play of the player in some time. I can say this, I know lots of players. All of them have told me that the new acquisition is a bit of a different bird. Not sure that’s what I’d want around a young core." |

I truly hope that wasn't part of it, you cant be making trades because a few of them are buddies omg!

Nick Paul plays roughly 16-20 minutes. Joseph plays 10-13 minutes. Joseph is 2 years younger.
Career:
Joseph - 221GP / 37G / 33A / 70PT5
Paul - 227GP / 29G / 37A / 66 PTS
I'm assuming he's going to get more minutes, so that's why I said he could be better offensively. I have no idea what he's like, I'm only looking at his stats.

I guess time will tell! After listing to the postgame show last night, it really sounds like the players arent at all happy about what was going on with the Nick Paul negotiations. I wonder how much of this snowballs behind the scenes as they say. Even the coaching staff expressed how angry they were with PD!

Weird trades. I'll reserve final judgement until tomorrow evening. Dorion better have some tricks up his sleeve. |

Well I saw him when Ottawa played Tampa and he buzzes around and he's fast but doesn't accomplish much. I hope he will show more in Ottawa but he's 25 so how much improvement are we likely to see. Paul had much more to contribute and will help Tampa try to win again. I'll be happy for him if they do but he would have been a great third line guy here in Ottawa. |

Joseph is not a bad player. But the trade once again shines a light on how much money matters for this office. He's an arb eligible RFA. He can likely be signed for 2-3 years sub 1.4M. It's something of a lateral move with what many perceived to be our biggest trade chip.
Now watch MJ be sold as the top 6 RW Dorion was looking for. |
