Thanks for your efforts Bill. Best writer on the site by far Trying year, but your single handedly keeping fans like myself interested in the games. Hope Comcast respects your work and efforts as much as the fan base does! |

7 Poile knew Ellis was damaged goods. And Fletcher swallowed the bait. - THE EVIL WITHIN
I would not give Poile that much credit. Afterall he did sign him for $6+MM until age 36. Anyone who has watched Ellis during his entire career knows he is injury prone. He is hurt every year and misses an average of 25% of the games. |

Due to lost revenues during the pandemic and the decision to extend rather than trade Ekholm, Predators ownership wanted to cut budget. That's why Ellis was made available in trade.
Besides, his current injury issue is one he never had previously in his career. |

Bill, Poile could've chosen another player to move. Ellis was moved to get out from under that contract, no doubt.

The price was two young NHL roster players who were perhaps reclamation projects but who had been very highly regarded at one point not that long ago. |

In your experience, wouldn't that be a suspiciously low price for a guy like that, that too signed, and for a reasonable cap hit to boot?
My theory is Ellis had started showing signs of wear and tear on his body. Maybe this did not show up in his medical reports but people like his trainers would be aware This would manifest itself as long recovery times from routine injuries, extra time off needed between games, extra physical therapy, frequency of soft tissue injuries and how long they lingered, and Preds were upfront about it to the Flyers, who essentially took a gamble and that is why they were not suspicious of the unusually low price. |

Funny how he goes to the best team in the league, immediately on the first line, putting up points, counted on in key situations. But I guess he was captain comfortable...or maybe this team just sucked. |
