Theoretically I understand why people wanted him, but yea, I wanted no part of that.

Thank goodness. That guys got some bad juju.

Regarding Kakko, you really gotta feel for the guy. He’s had such an odd start to his NHL career. Thrust into the NHL when he really needed a year in Hartford, COVID, up and down the lineup, little PP time, now plagued by injuries.

Crazy next season will be his 4th in the league. I still think we’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg with him. Predicting a major breakout, 60/70 point season but first a very strong playoffs.

since they play for two of the top teams in the OHL and are in same division, there is a really good chance at some point Will Cuylle and Brennan Othmann are in a playoff series against one another sometime in the next month

they need to be bitter enemies before they become best buddies

This is exactly why I have no problem with Kakko and Laf's slower start to their careers. If they could get them both on lower bridge deals for the 2nd contracts that will be huge

Annnnnnd they’re both LWs

Laf needs to do whatever it takes to learn the center ice position, or else maybe they do trade him🤷🏻‍♂️ He has the ability to win faceoffs and plenty of time to improve. He’s defensively sound. So it’s just learning the ins and outs of the position I guess. Bottom line the rangers NEED him to move positions to make the perfect team

Unless someone offer sheets Kakko at like $3m. Then we have real issues

I am not worried about offer sheets. Outside of the Montreal/Carolina fight they are very rare

Offer sheets to either KK or Laf will be a huge headache.

He’s also got to agree to sign somewhere else. 3 mill isn’t going to make him run somewhere else immediately.

You don't think a 22 year old being offered an additional $1m - $1.5m per year will give some serious thought to it if not straight up jump at it?

I could see him get traded before an offer sheet. Or sign and trade type deal. Rangers aren’t losing him for the offer sheet compensation, it’ll be for a bigger package, with NHL players involved.

Those 2 guys haven't played an NHL game yet. Laf don't need to do poop till both those guys can prove they can play in the NHL, or for that matter are better than Laf

He’s gonna make that and then some if he’s just patient. 1.2 no. That isn’t making him leave lol if someone got stupid and offered like 6-7 then yea we got an issue.

everybody is spooked by the Kotkaniemi offer sheet

it was a 1 year 6.1 millon dollar offer sheet as vengeance for Montreal's Sebastian Aho offer sheet

if someone signs Kakko to a 1 year 6.1 million dollar offer sheet, we will take the picks

I get it but they do have an abundance of highly touted, and already touted players, at LW

My point with Laf is, he’s more than likely capable of playing center in the NHL. Malkin was LW if I recall, and developed into a top center. It’s not something outlandish. And I don’t mean now, I mean down the road

one thing that Cuylle and Othmann will have going for them that Lafreniere and Kakko didn't was that everything should be normal starting next year

starting their careers when Kakko and Lafreniere did with these crazy last 3 seasons in the NHL has been nuts

Cuylle and Othmann will also be quite a bit more seasoned than Kakko and Laf were

Messier also broke into the league as a wing.
