Trash move by Spurgeon but I've seen much worse than that let go without a suspension. Plus Buchnevich seemed to be OK, so Spurgeon will just have to pay a fine and move on.

I don't believe he has a history of plays like that either, so I think you might be correct.

Minnesota’s Jared Spurgeon has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for Cross-checking St. Louis’ Pavel Buchnevich.
We’ve been burned multiple times the last few post seasons (coincidentally against pitts) with our players getting shoved into tenders. I just don’t see that as interference imo. I’ll also add that defenders, I believe, intentionally shove players into them to get the call. Of course it’s a combination of defending with a little dose of what I’m saying. Not saying that defending isn’t part of it… - Cptmjl
I don't think Kakko was even remotely close to shoved. I see two hands on Dumoulin's stick reaching for the puck. There's some contact, sure, but I don't think that's the kind of contact the NHL is looking for when it comes to making the play ineligible to be negated for goaltender interference. The rule reads:
1) an attacking player, either by his positioning or by contact, impairs the goalkeeper’s ability to move freely within his crease or defend his goal; or 2) an attacking player initiates intentional or deliberate contact with a goalkeeper, inside or outside of his goal crease. Incidental contact with a goalkeeper will be permitted, and resulting goals allowed, when such contact is initiated outside of the goal crease, provided the attacking player has made a reasonable effort to avoid such contact. If an attacking player has been pushed, shoved, or fouled by a defending player so as to cause him to come into contact with the goalkeeper, such contact will not be deemed contact initiated by the attacking player for purposes of this rule, provided the attacking player has made a reasonable effort to avoid such contact.“
There was certainly no foul on the play, so that leaves the Kakko being "pushed" or "shoved" into the goaltender as really the only options to allow the goal to stand. I don't think the minor incidental contact with Dumoulin qualifies as either.
If the league is going to say that play was a good goal, then they're effectively neutering all defenseman if a forward gets around them. It's also going to give forwards the ability to, essentially, drive to the net with impunity and either have a clean shot from 3ft out or get bumped and steamroll the goaltender.
“This is hockey, and this group, a good portion of it, should be back together next year,” Trotz said. “But there’s always some change, and whatever that change is, then it will be a new group just with a few changes. … This summer will be a summer to reflect, a summer to get recharged. The NHL can humble you, and we got humbled this year.”

I think there’s a fine line between players clearly getting shoved into the opposing teams goaltender by one of their own defenseman and a tender getting “Kreider’d”. I’m not a fan of defenseman being the cause of the contact with the tender and it still being called interference. Sure if it’s deemed to be avoidable by all means call it interference but I’ve seen to many goals called back due to what I see as unavoidable contact that was created by defending players shoving opposing players into their own goaltenders. That’s lame.

From the angle the video starts at, Kakko sure doesn't seem to fall forward like anyone that was shoved/pushed/bumped/checked/etc...
Dumoulin may have angled him towards DeSmith but at no point does it appear that Kakko gets pushed forward to me. The responsibility has always been on the attacking skater to do everything possible to avoid the goaltender and I don't see Kakko do a single thing that looks like he tried to avoid him.

Honestly only watched one video of it to form my opinion. Now it looks a little more borderline to me.
Seems to be a little more follow through on Kakko’s part.

Yeah, there was a lot of "accidental on purpose" there on Kakko's part, from what I'm seeing. But for a guy many are claiming was pushed, he sure didn't fall forward like anyone that gets pushed would have.

Didn’t watch the game and had a busy day so whatever angle was in the video I watched it looked like he was shoved into him. With that said I can stand the interference calls like I’m describing where the defender is clearly the cause of it. We’ve been burned so many times on those calls as have most teams. It’s just utter horse crap as far as I’m concerned.

I was watching some of the Leafs-Bolts game last night, and I realized toward the end of the game that Tavares still plays for the Leafs. The guy was all but invisible. More and more I think the Isles dodged a bullet when he chose to sign with Toronto. What a waste of cap space....
I checked out the Leafs page, and some of their fans are saying essentially the same thing.

The Leafs and Tavares both get what they deserve. My wish is that neither one is successful throughout this contract agreement. Furthermore I hope Tavares wins nothing for the rest of his career.

I watched the 2nd & 3rd periods of this game. I thoroughly enjoyed watching the Bolts kick their asses up & down the ice. You're right, JT has been invisible this series. He still plays the same way too, "Don't hit me. Don't hit me. Don't hit me." The Leafs have gotten a bit more grit to their game this year but they took 3 really stupid penalties last night. Simmonds with 2 after the whistle and Bunting with the crotch shot. Hopefully TB takes the next 3 games and sends the Laffs packing. Then we can listen to their fans crying about the officiating and how they got screwed.

I don't care anymore. I just don't want the Leafs to win. I want them knocked out in the first round every year they're in the playoffs. If JT goes to another team and wins, fine, don't care.

He's still pretty much a point per game player, so I don't know if it's that bad.

He's still a good player, invisible in two playoff games maybe...but still good.
The issue is really that they could have spent that $11M in a much more productive way that rounded out the roster. Their depth up front would still be solid without him and they could've been paying a much better goaltender and a solid defenseman and probably could have kept Kadri around (at least until this season ends).
Tavares was like buying a Mercedes when you had pipes leaking in your house.
