Carol Schram: Abbotsford Canucks' promising debut season ends in 2-game playoff sweep The Vancouver Canucks made a commitment to their development system and to their franchise's footprint in the province of British Columbia when they moved their farm team to Abbotsford last summer. A solid first season ended abruptly on Wednesday, when the baby Canucks were swept by the Bakersfield Condors in the best-of-three first-round playoff series.

I have to back off on the ‘trade Brock’ train. Idk his off ice distractions that would weigh on anyones mind heavily.

Great work, as usual, Carol. Rutherford talks a big game, I’m hopeful that he can actually backup his mouth with action.

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, until the Canucks fix their defense they’re going to continue to be a bubble or wild card team.

Quinn Hughes is a really good offensive dman and good at puck transition to the forwards. When they actually give him outs. That said, he’s more Charlie McAvoy than he is Victor Hedman. Gotta fix that defense.

It's true. And people forget he the year before he was arguably the best forward. I think dumb to trade him unless he wants to big a contract. The guys care about him.

Upgrade the D and 3-4th lines and give this group a chance with bruce.

QH is a top D-man in the league for sure. More offence but the thing is, if the pucks on your stick, they are not scoring either.

I agree we need to upgrade the D overall. I think QH has a Norris chance, or at least close as he and the team mature.

Sounds good on the surface but where is the who & how to complete your narrative?

By upgrading with young D in the mid 20's, you'll pay a very high price.

Do you keep on trading draft picks or do you move a roster player or a combination?

If you only have time to watch one series I would suggest Rags/Pens or Canes/Bruins.
Both have been fantastic so far.

Yup but again who & how to ug the D? As for the 3-4th lines Hog should improve top 9 depth but Dlcky was not value at all. Cheaper & bigger fast role player for the 4th. Lockwood got a taste & should come to camp asserting himself.

That’s why I think trading Boeser and or Miller makes sense. To go along with drafting.

Yeah, it's tough. Richardy did start to look better at the end. i doubt we can trade him so just need to hope he rebounds next year.

The D is hard.....

The Avs stoke Toews from the Islanders....

I'm hoping Rathbone can take the next step. Or bundle him with a forward for an upgrade on D.

Those are 2 obvious assets to dangle but are you willing to be patient for a few years? 2nd who has the D to move to get either? Lastly trading out a top 3 F is a set back on scoring without an heir apparent that is ready.

Imo the priority is moving out cap at a minimal cost. Patience hunting for free assets. Use the TDL with the cap space being the weapon if no deal found in the off season.

I don't even have time for one, I just spent the evening at the Country Rose catching up with a friend from Sweden. Back to tiling the basement bathroom.

Then we have almost no forwards who are good.....

EP.....Bo.....garlund....podz maybe.....hog maybe.....

Better win every game 1-0

It will take a top 6 player + to land a quality young D.

The plan, as Rutherford laid it out, is to focus on finding more good players who are 25 or younger and can grow along with the young core that's already in place

I feel as if another recent GM said the same thing. Turned into quite a few picks being traded for nothing returns down the line. Hopefully that doesn't happen again.

The guy was picky about leaving that clown show in ARZ, you think he’s gonna waive now? Doubt

He might waive for Boston.
