Dorion didn't like how McGuire had everyone over to his house for a BBQ not long after being hired to get to know the coaching staff and upper management team.
So why is Dorion still employed? Some sort of succession transition is in progress and the administrator of Melnyk's estate is just keeping things status quo? |

Because Dorion didn't hire him, plain and simple. No GM wants someone that clearly has more hockey knowledge than they have that wasn't brought in my them. Pretty simple. It is like that at any level in any job in upper management. People fearing for their jobs, rather than pulling together to make things great! |

As I mentioned there are other aspects that i just cant write about now that would answer part of what you are asking. Plus lawyers, lawyers, lawyers lol.

Flat out, he was fired for doing his job and having too much hockey knowledge. Something any NHL personnel person would tell you is Dorion's problem and the Sens downfall at the same time. |

Look, there are few things I cant write that I was told but I was "nice" when talking about Chabot and Brady talking to Dorion. The players are having to hold the GM accountable because nobody else will in the org! Its that pathetic but good on Chabot. I will say this, if this team isn't substantially better this season, you are beyond correct......Chabot will ask for a trade!

McGuire should have never been hired in the first place. There's a reason most of his career is on TV. No one wanted to hire him after his fiasco in Hartford... except Ottawa of course.
Dorion is a tool, but imo McGuire would be MUCH worse if he was the GM. |

Fair enough on PM, but the bigger issue is PD and what he's using as leverage in the org to keep his job the way he did.
I had 2 guys who work in the org that said, PM allowed them to have their voice heard for the first time as PD always shut them out.....they said PM made the org so much better and that by firing him they both questioned why they are even in the org. But sometimes a job is a job.

From the sound of this article the Senators had better figure out what the ownership succession plan is very quick and hire a new GM because this will probably boil over next season, if not sooner. I have no love for Maguire. The guy is obnoxious and I can easily see him angling for Dorion's job behind the scenes. But Dorion definitely seems over his head and could really do damage to the progress of this team which is poised to be a real contender soon. Kind of like Chiarelli did in Edmonton. I'd like to see Ottawa succeed and win a Cup for the fans, especially now that Melnyk is out of the picture. |

Sorry what do you mean? If DJ continues his line up mess each night and Dorion does nothing to address a meaningful partner for Chabot, it will drive him to ask for one. He was on Dorion big time about his decisions!

All fair points and I think most Sens fans would echo your comments. No doubt PM eventually would've angled for the GM job, but PD like you said.....very similar to Chiarelli. I know many people in the org are afraid DJ and PD know their jobs on the line and are truly worried that they make knee jerk decisions affecting things long term.

One story I was told was how furious PM was with PD when Dorion leaked the Nick Paul contract offer to make himself look good and Paul to look bad for turning it down. As a few TSN1200 on air radio people mentioned, I confirmed it as well, they were 300k apart per year on the deal!
Plus it just goes to show everyone how PD lies to everyone saying they don't negotiate in the media. He does it when it's convenient for him, that's for sure! |

As I mentioned in the piece, when I spoke about PD's pressuring for an extension, once I get the green light to write about it from my sources, I will post another piece on it. |

Ah ok, my bad, I see! Ya lets face it, PD is in over his head and in due time PM probably would've angled for the GM job, or when new ownership was in place. PD knew it and like I said, was selfish and made sure PM was gone before new ownership got in place.

Which is why this team needs new ownership. This whole concept of the two daughters running the team, both in their early 20's could end up being worse than having EM run into the ground for the past 5 years plus.
