Hmmm. TSN had a video with remarkably similar content and title yesterday…

Coincidence I guess.

Numerous articles in the last couple of days about how naive it is to diminish this to McDavid versus MacKinnon. Woodcroft himself emphasized that nobody wins 2 rounds without contributions from the whole roster. Draisitl also happens to have the same 26 points as McDavid, including a record-breaking 17 points last series. So I don't know that any serious hockey fan thinks this is just a McDavid vs MacKinnon showdown.

Also curious why Kuemper is described as a flawed veteran? His regular season stats were fantastic. He has a 2.44 GAA in the playoffs. Better than Shesterkin. Only remaining goalie better than Kuemper's GAA is Vasilevskiy. If we want to talk about flawed veterans, here's a few better examples...

MAF = 2-3 record before finally getting yanked (again). GAA over 3 and SV% of just .906

Jack Campbell = remember the hot take about him being the best American goalie and should be the starter for the now cancelled Olympic team. 3-4 record. GAA over 3 and SV% below .900. Great stuff!

Jakob Markstrom = remember when Nashville was apparently so lucky to avoid Markstrom and instead go up against the very flawed Darcy Kuemper? Well Markstrom flopped badly, while Kuemper had no problems with Nashville.

Doesn't Codi Ceci play for Edmonton too?
I wonder if there's a hot tub at the hotel in Denver.

The NHL can do far more to MARKET the best players in the game. But trying to spin a series as Player A versus Player B might work for casual fans, but is pretty insulting to those who understand the sport. Pretty big difference.

I would also say there is a lost opportunity to market the best PERSONALITIES in the sport. It doesn't always have to be the most skilled players but you can market guys who naturally want a public persona or to connect with fans. The NHL could have worked with Sean Avery to market him as a villain. Instead they treated him like a villain. Ilya Bryzgalov was hilarious and nuts. Lost opportunity. Pk Subban. Brett Burns. Matthew Tkachuk. John Tortorella. Would rather hear from these guys than another interview from the usual robots talking about teamwork, 100% effort, one step at a time, blah, blah, boring.

Ive seen some bad calls but this one is going to absolutely haunt the NHL, any trust in the referees is now 100% gone

Why. They called it correctly.

Makar pushes puck across the blueline with Nichuskin inside the offensive zone. But Makar doesn’t touch the puck and cross the blue line himself until Nichushkin exited, or tagged up. Easy call IMO. Not offside.

What difference does it make He moved the puck into the zone It did not get there by itself OFF SIDES Same as declaring that if he has possession it is not offsides even though he does not have real possession of the puck He put it there and it did not push itself into the zone OFFSIDES

Wrong and wrong. It was explained pretty clearly during the intermission.

Personally I called it off side as well at high speed. But once slowed it was not off side.

Never called myself a "hockey expert", but thanks for the declaration.

Even by the rules it's questionable. Makar had control entering the zone, he tipped it forward to himself while on the line, but did not have it on his stick while the puck legally entered the zone. and did not touch it again nor enter before the other player legally exited. Still a questionable call. it could have gone either way, but by letter of the nhl law... sadly it is legal. It's a wishy washy play. No way Makar was intentionally doing it as it ended, but by league rules it is a fair goal.

Spirit of the rule it was offside, as was Coleman's goal legal. Calling it to the T it was legal, as could Colemans be called legal. They called Coleman's on the spirit of rule and called Makar's on the official legality. By this time in the playoffs a standard should set. One way or the other.

It was just a joke man.

And I don't think anyone is seriously trying to spin the series as essentially 1 v 1. They're just excited to see legitimately elite players deep in the playoffs instead of, like, the Blues. Can't say I blame them.
