Rangers play two teams starting 2nd and third string goalies the first two rounds and now play Tampa without Point. Wow that’s some luck. |

I still give the Rangers a ton of credit. They are making things happen and making their own breaks. |

Yeah, sure, I guess, with some incredibly advantageous circumstances in each round. Ranger fans will of course lose their minds with whoever says this but there’s obviously no denying it. Playing back ups, third string, and injured goaltenders for any team is a pretty big deal. Brayden Point being out is a HUGE deal. It’s undeniable even to the Ranger fans who will prob go back to their thread and whine about my post.
If the roles were reversed I wouldn’t care if other fans said the same. Christ, we had the entire league saying we sucked for the last four seasons. They have a pretty great situation in these playoffs with some important players out. |

First we have gotten more new blogs during the offseason then we had during the regular season. Sorry just had to note that.
Second, I will cough last nights Rangers win to a flat Tampa Bay team. If you remember the Isles had a similar situation when they played Tampa and got smoked in their first game 6-0. I fully expect Tampa to come back tomorrow.
Unless their is a good deal, too good to pass up, I do not trade Varly now. |

The Sabres would be a good fit... they have plenty of draft choices this year, they have the cap space and they could use a goalie with his numbers until they get some of their own home-grown goalies more experience. |

I remember when we caught them flat footed a few years back after they were well rested. They then proceeded to pummel us the rest of the series.
Not saying that’s going to happen and like ses said the rangers deserve credit of course. They have themselves a good team(where is the Rangers are good sarcasm crowd on here now?) They capitalized and that’s what you have to do in the playoffs but a Point(less) lightning is an exponentially easier lighting team to play against. Guy is an animal and has destroyed us and the rest of the league in the playoffs the last few years. |

Isles caught some breaks as well during their runs to the Eastern finals. The season was paused and Pelech was able to get healthy. Isles beat some flawed teams in the early rounds and that Boston team was banged up on defense.
It still burns me losing to Tampa twice and that game 7 was brutal with the Islanders afraid to play any sort of offense and still using Leo on the 1st line just desperately trying to hold on. Islanders were a strong system team but that only takes you so far against elite teams. The Devils had the trap but had a hall of fame goalie and two dmen and very useful forwards. |

Of course but playing goalies that have almost no NHL experience or back ups the first two rounds then playing the lightning down Brayden Point? Come on
If we played the lightning without Point last season we most likely win the cup. The guy killed us. |

Point is a huge factor but the Isles got shutout twice by Tampa. Islanders lost because of their offense and not their defense. |

Yeah I get that but you don’t think having to defend against one of the best centers in the league played a part in that? |

It played a huge part.
Also, it's worth mentioning that Tampa lost Gourde in the expansion draft and he had the series-winning goal against us. |

Played a part sure but Leo on the 1st line and the Isles lack of offense were the biggest factors. |

Point is skating again and should return this series. That will provide a massive boost to the Lightning...until trouba throws another "clean hit" at his head.

You don’t think going seven games last season in a tight series it would have been a huge advantage to play them without their number one center? Seriously get a grip. You have lost all objectivity. |

You just keep going back to the same thing that you’re pissed about rather then accepting playing a team in a seven game series without their number one center would be advantageous |

Point is out for the year. He tried skating yesterday and collapsed hard into the boards. |

Seeing all the teams having to rely on backups these playoffs the last thing I want to do is trade Varlamov. I suspect Lou agrees. |

I agree and you’re probably right but he’s going to have a real hard time adding anything serious to this lineup without dumping some salary. |
