A little odd to be draft day and we aren’t talking really at all as to the Rangers will select. FidT time in several years that has been the case.

I remember in 2017 I wasn't paying much attention and then all of a sudden in the middle of the day we had the 7th overall pick

apparently the Rangers were just as poorly prepared as I was to make that pick

What a trade that was for Arizona. They gave away DeAngelo and their 7th overall for almost nothing

it really ended up being one of the weirdest trades ever

ultmately the Rangers turned Andersson into a 2nd round pick

and Coyotes got a 2nd round pick for Stepan

I'm expecting the Rangers to waive Nemeth today with the intentions of buying him out

would be surprised if that doesn't happen today

I think they tried but couldn't pawn him off on anyone and nobody will even want him for free

At least, for the Rangers sake, there wasn't a whole lot of great talent that they missed out on immediately after the Andersson pick. Mittelstadt, Rasmussen, Tippett, and Vilardi all have been largely underwhelming. Necas is good and Suzuki has been very good. Then a whole bunch of nothing until you get down to 19/20 with Josh Norris and Robert Thomas.

Weird first round that year.

Isn't the full cap space savings each season worth it to package him with a pick/prospect? I can't stand these (frank)ing buyouts.

it's a 1 million cap hit this year and then 0 cap hit in 2023-24

and then I think they probably figure cap will be a lot higher in 2025 and 2026

wouldn't burying him in the minors accomplish the same thing? though i guess it would impact next season worse?

burying him in minors would give the Rangers around a 1.4 mil cap hit this year and next year

I really think they just wanna wipe their hands of him

That's why I'd rather they attach a future 2nd or 3rd round pick to him and have nothing toward the cap. We can afford that more than the dead cap space at this time, IMO.

Id rather have the dead cap space than trade away another pick.

If Wright is available at No. 2, can the Rangers make a trade with the Devils for that pick? What is the price? Would Kakko and Nils come close?

I have. But, we don't have room for all the defensive, wing or goaltending prospects have right now, and for the next few years. Given that fact, why worry about filling the cupboard that is currently so full we can't shut the doors? I'm not calling for reckless abandonment of the draft pool or grooming from within. But, this is not so dire as it usually is. Our biggest issue right now, IMO, is icing a team that can repeat or better this season's successes. We are already in cap trouble this season. Why make it worse over Patrick (frank)ing Nemeth?

Oh please do tell, what has Wright done to prove he is worth more??? KK is a second over all pick, Wright would be a second overall pick.

We are in desperate need of Centers, if you suggested trading picks for a second, then for sure, but to just trade a pick to get rid of yet another bad contract, then no. Buy him out. The million buck Cap hit isnt as bad as the others we have had to endure.
