Letang and Geno will be signed before the draft. Mark it down. - Rinosaur
I'm half-way to my prediction. |

Best part about Letang's extension is that it got rid of that horrid excuse for a blog before this one. |

Term remains an issue in the Malkin negotiations. I don’t believe the Penguins are ready to go past three years. We’ll see if that changes or not.
I have such a hard time believing they wouldn't do four years. |

Bonus word on the 'No long term for Malkin' is their concern with his injury history and slowing down. All of our stars have bad injury histories, but (frank) his slowing down. Are they simply comparing him to Letang? No one looks good compared to Letang's stamina at their age. |

They gave Letang 6 years but won’t go past 3 for Geno? I can see why him leaving is a possibility. |

Straight disrespect. Give Letang 6 years but won't even give Geno 4 lol gtfo. If he's willing to take 6m at 4 years, you sign that every day of the week. |

Letang is 350 points shy of 1,000. Does anyone think he could get it? Only 8 defensemen have ever done it.
If he plays 5 of those years (which i dont think is unrealistic), he would need to average 70 points, pretty much on par with what he did this season.
I think its highly unlikely, but you have to wonder if he plays well in his first 2-3 years of this deal, does he feel obligated to keep going if he's close. |

Doubtful, but if he's close, maybe he signs cheap contracts to try and hit it but I don't think his production will stay that high.

He would have to average more than his best year... for the next 5 straight.
Nope, not hitting 1000 |

My guess is that stuff with Malkin moves fast now. He’s willing to take a pay cut and just wants the term until his ideal retirement age. I think giving Letang six years signals Hex and Burke don’t have a real issue with term despite what’s being reported. I think they were just prioritizing Letang and didn’t want to sign Geno before him unless it was a ridiculously team friendly no brainer deal like Rust. Now that Letang is done and they have full clarity, real negotiations will start. |

I truly cant grasp the disrespect from the Penguins and the fans towards Malkin. He has sacrificed his body for this team, delayed sugeries, etc.
I think everyone agrees, this window is 3 years. What contracts are on the books 4+ years from now, dont matter.
You have billionaire owners who could afford to pay Letang and Malkin on the LTIR.
Give Malkin 4 years for $6M and then sign Rakell. |

We can only hope the reports have been all wrong. We really got mixed Letang reports before knowing we heard yesterday directly from Hextall.

It's pretty amazing he has only played 80+ regular season games in a season once. If he consistently plays 80+ games, hes probably within 200 of the feat. |

Thats pretty insane for Letang. Good deal for all.
Yeah hard to tell what the hang up with Malkin is now. If they can get him in the 6 range who cares on term. They just better get him support. THey should have hte cap to do it. Actually crazy if they could get Malkin that cheap they could get another top 6 F bottom 6 support and D upgrade if they can move out Dumo or someone.
Hopefully its not EROD and Kap. |

This gives them more cap space to trade Dumo for Tatar. |

There is no way Kap plays another game in a Penguins sweater. He completely fell out of favor by years end, and deservedly so. |

Geno commented on the Pens Letang IG post and said "I hope I don't have to play against you Letang" |

Yea, I don’t understand what the issue is with Malkin and 4 years. I understand he has some injury issues, but Malkin at 6 mil/year is way better than most other contracts.
12.5 mil cap hit for both letang/Malkin leaves you enough room to be aggressive in trades or free agency. Not to mention it leaves you with money to actually pay for a top 6 winger with Malkin. Whether that’s resigning Rakell or going after Trochek or something.
Cap should be going up again next year and JJs buyout drops a mil. Team is definitely in a good position for the next 3 years to be all in |

That makes me think things are a lot less dire than is being reported. I know Geno is a good but if he actually thought he had one foot out the door I don’t think he’d be joking about it. |

GREAT (GREAT!!!) deal for the pens. I cannot believe the first # didnt start with a 7 or an 8. I thought it would be 5 yrs/40M. If i was montreal, i would have offered 9X5 to amke up for any tax rates and then bring in a bunch of companies to pitch him on advertising money for him, his wife and son. He could make more in marketing deals than the actual contract. So for 6.1M its a bargain. No, i dont care about 6 years.
Next up: Geno and then rackell. Maybe they will trade Dumo and McGinn too?? Please. And a hard pass on Kappy. |
