The debate over Kane can fall into two categories, win now or build for the future. Trading for Kane will cost assets, no doubt for two reasons Hawks must retain a sizable chunk of his salary and the second being his talent level. So do we throw assets away for a year of Kane and hope to win the Cup, which if we dont we would have taken a step back with the trading of these younger assets or do we stay the course and continue to add to a solid foundation. The Avs and Bolts are perfect examples of building around a solid core and letting them grow.

But both teams dealt to supplement. Tampa Bay dealt two first rounders to get Goodrow and Coleman and also dealt a first to get Hagel, the latter though will be around a while. Colorado augmented what they had. Look at what DeBrincat brought back for Chicago and he could have been locked up long term by the team. I am not saying they should or shouldn't - not yet - but a move like that does push the chips to the center of the table/

I want no parts of Kane. It’s going to cost us considerable parts of our future and it’s no guarantee we win anything. We could get him and lose in the first round and he goes and signs with someone else. Then what. Build around and supplement the kids and enjoy the ride for the next 10 years wherever it takes us.

I guess for me it depends on what the “considerable assets” are in a deal for Kane. I could understand reluctance in trading away next years #1 draft pick.

It’s a tough spot for Drury, confronted with the realization that his 11 mil star player has no one to play with, and the fact that Kane would be a one year addition.

It’s unfortunate after such a great playoff run, the club has significant questions regarding lineup construction, especially in the top six. Bread, Zib, Laf and probably Krieder are givens. After that it’s a crap shoot.

Panarin has guys to play with, we’ll get him a center and he’ll be fine. I don’t get the need for another “star” on this team.

Laf Zib Kakko
Panarin Chytil Kravtsov
Kreider Bennett Cuylle

Laf/Kakko/Chytil need to take the next step and I think they showed in the playoffs they’re ready to do that.

Who are we trading for Bennett?

Picks, Jones/Nils, maybe we have a prospect they like, kinda like our hard-on for Hajek in the McD/Miller deal. They traded the equivalent of 2 2nds to get him, I’m sure we could work something out. FLA is loaded at center and rumored to be in on Malkin.

Two free agents that could be targets are Dylan Strome, not qualified by Chicago, and Mason Marchment, who is a UFA. I think Strome has underachieved, as his career has been very uneven, but he did rebound this year. Like Ryan, maybe coming to New York will take his career to another level. Marchment had some moments in Florida, but right now, he is dealing with the unfortunate loss of his father. He would be a solid third line addition with upside.

Rangers just made it to the ECF. I know you want to make a splash or two in order to improve the roster, but letting this young team continue to grow together will do just that. Make small additions and subtractions to make the needed improvements...

Resign Motte
Resign Kakko
Sign Colin White (3C)
Sign backup goalie (Jones?)
Trade/Buy-out/Send to AHL...Nemeth
Trade Reaves to free up more cap

Move Panarin up with Mika and Kreider
Laff/Fill/KK kid line get to show what they can do
Blais / White / Kravtsov
Motte / Goodrow / Hunt

Resign Rooney as 4C if you don't play Hunt.

Defense I would give Zack Jones a real shot to play with Schneider. Sign a Brendan Smith type player (if not actually sign him) to do 6/7 D-man.

Call it an off-season. Make a trade down the road if you need.

If you could get KANE at $5m and only give up CHYTIL would you do it?
Chicago needs to dump cash now between Kane and Toews. This might be the time to grab KANE.

In your scenario you acquire a center from Florida, who have given no indication they’d be willing to deal Bennett, but I do like the player.

Is Kravstov, Kucherov? Or is he something less, we don’t know, that’s why he’s a crap shoot.

I’m not giving Kakko 1st line minutes, and if they do it won’t last.

Cuylie is a rookie, we don’t know if he’ll even make the club.

I’m not advocating for Kane to be brought in, but this is not going to cut it.

Golden Knights are still over the Cap. I would still explore trading for Chandler Stephenson. His contract is worth overpaying for with our young, cheap assets.

Kravtsov isn’t Kucherov, but I also don’t expect him to play like a rookie. He saw what it’s like to play in the NHL and played well in the KHL. He isn’t a 19 year old kid either, he’s turning 23 in Dec.

What’s the point of trading reaves and buying out nemeth if your plan doesn’t include adding any extra to our cap

Patty Kane is made for NYC. And to play at MSG, with Panarin. I truly believe this is the move that puts them over the top and hope they pull the trigger and pull it off. I also believe the return and trade will be much more digestible than people suggest.

The two of them would light up this city together. We haven’t had that sorta thing in a long time. The crowds will be insane inside MSG and the playoff atmosphere? Omg that would be epic and loud. Players have stated how much that helps and pumps them up. Kane still has it. He hasn’t slowed down so the age isn’t a factor yet. Some guys can just play longer than others and still produce. He’ll come here revived and ready to put on a show!

This is your Erik Karlsson kick all over again, you’ll get over it and realize we’re better off without him.

You really don’t think he’d make them a better team right now? You can’t possibly think that lol

Of course he makes this team better, but it's also a hole that doesn't exist/need to be filled really. We need a center which he would prevent from happening since we have no cap space and i think you underestimate what he'll likely command on his next contract despite his age, so in reality it's probably a 1 year rental and is that really worth it pending what we have to give up?

It sure as hell would be entertaining to watch, but it just create more holes depending what would go the other way/not allow us to address our actual needs, which might just make it a wash vs a positive.

I think when it’s Kane that’s available you get him, figure out a center later. I’m fine with plug in guys for now. He’s a difference maker. The timing may be right is the other thing. I get the anti Kane sentiment tho, it’s a very bold move

There are plenty of 3C options they could get and afford them. They need to wait on the big fish center until after Chytils year next year. Because maybe he’s the 2C right under our noses

What about trading Chytil and selling R Strome to stay by giving him and his brother identical 4.5 x 5 year deals. Not saying R Strome would agree to it, but how would u guys feel about having both Stromes as 2/3C?
