Thanks Carol, I wasn't aware of who the Canucks signed so your update was convenient. |

If we were coming down the stretch, as a playoff bubble team (which we are), and this roster WITHOUT Miller, would you trade whatever the offers might have been at last deadline and or this draft for a shot at getting Miller? These assets might be a good prospect/high draft pick/ player. I don't think anyone on this site would make that trade as the team isn't ready to compete for a Cup.
That is what the Canucks are risking and have been risking up to this point. If Miller doesn't resign with us (and probably won't based just on our cap space alone) and walks for nothing with the team missing the playoffs or just getting in and facing Colorado and getting stomped, the team has wasted those possible assets. For a team like the Canucks that have missed the playoffs multiple years and have no real farm system to speak of, risking and losing possible assets like this is insane. There is a time to go for it, meaning the Cup (not just the playoffs) and there isn't. And in good conscience you think now is the time, and the team is ready to make a Cup run? |

It seems that Mikheyev will have a tough time getting top 6 minutes with the glut of wingers, unless his offensive upside really blossoms.
I guess we’ll see if someone gets moved, but you would expect Boeser, Garland, Kuzmenko and one of Pettersson/Miller would all slot in ahead of him. Even Pearson, Höglander or Podkolzin could be ahead in offensive situations.
Perhaps the depth will mean Boudreau rolls three lines pretty evenly.
I could see Mikheyev being the guy receiving the drop pass on the PP, a la McDavid, though apparently his puck skills at speed need some work still. |

I personally would like to see some evidence of an actual long-term plan with regards to getting us to be mentioned in the same breath as Colorado or NYR or Tampa or Edmonton. Teams that have either won a Cup (or two) or are just on the cusp of being able to breakthrough to win.
Trading Miller, Garland, Pearson and maybe even Myers or better yet OEL would go a long way in letting us take a step back in order to take a giant leap forward by giving us cap space to weaponize and going prospects and draft capital to use |

I think you'll see some winger/s get moved. Garland and Hoglander two most likely candidates |

Maybe, we’ll see. If not they’ll have the deepest team they’ve had since last year! |

Problem is they can't all play at once, and which ones don't require waivers to paly in Abby. |

At least 2 probably 3 of those guys are untradeable due to combination of contract or current abilities ... unless they sweeten with picks eating salary etc or taking on other team's problems. I hope this regime isn't going to get into that game ... that was the old regime game and it never worked. |

No, but losing assets because they're assumed to be "untradeable" because one reason or another is worse. Get something for players you don't want or expect to be able to afford/keep at least. If you're Colorado or Tampa where you've just won a Cup (or two) then losing a piece of two for nothing is a fair trade-off. We aren't even near that point yet, nor do we have any cap space to use to leverage to get sweeteners for taking on "untradeable" players that are on expiring deals to speed up our plans. |

I don't think anyone 'assuming' they're untradeable ... they just ... are. OEL & Myers currently worth maybe a third of their contracts. That means to get rid of, you need to accompany with assets (cap space also being an asset). So I don't see how trading saves assets.
I've seen some say Myers improved, but I didn't see it. Maybe marginally but still not even close to his contract. His best d-partner is demko who bails his a$$ out on all his brutal turnovers.
I agree with Miller though. Hoped they would cash in there but I think they played their hand too hard and might have left best deal they're gonna get on table. I don't mind Garland. Pearson isn't worth anything.

I think the Dakota Joshua signing is very good the more I look at it. Last year he had 8 points in 30 games. He’s only played 42 nhl games total but he fights a bit. It looks like he’s a step up from Highmore as a 4th liner. He just turned 26 and I think this will be the first year where he breaks through and makes it full time. |

Not to Nighthawk standards but…
Boeser Pettersson Mikheyev
Garland Miller Kuzmenko
Pearson Horvat Podkolzin
Joshua Lazar Höglander
Richardinson
Hughes Schenn
OEL Myers
Dermott Burroughs
Poolman
Keeper
Demko
Martin
That’s 23, only need waivers if you want Karlsson, or Costmar or someone to make the team.
Edit
Plus technically, Podkolzin, Kuzmenko and Höglander are all waiver exempt. |
