The Ducks will never get tucchuck because Calgary won't do in division. But I'll pretend they will. So next years 1st unprotected which should be worth alot. And also a second, Max Comtois and Jacob silfverberg. The Ducks would need to include that 1st just to make it doable from Calgarys point of view. Even with Tuchuck that should still be a top 10 pick. |

What makes this so tough is if the kid wants to be in a particular city (St. Louis) then all they (St. Louis) need to do is wait one year and he will be a UFA. So what CGY hopes to get and what they will get I don't know. Maybe some high end prospects/draft picks possibly? Is St. Louis waiting for the arbitration ruling to help them be a guide for their salary parameters? No doubt CGY is in a tough spot. |

We can get him for nothing next year. Cap works by buying out or trading Scandella and let Tarasenko walk. |

If CGY is heading towards a retool and OTT is a destination Tkachuk would accept (I assume he likes his brother), then:
OTT sends '23 1st (unprotected), '23 2nd, Pinto, and Batherson for Tkachuk who then signs for 6 years, the term left on Brady's contract. I have no idea what the AAV might look like, but this deal would leave OTT with not much space to sign about 6-7 guys. |

1. Tkachuk + O. Kylington to STL for: Kyrou, Krug, 2023 first, 2024 2nd rounder, Scandella, Jake Neighbors.
OR:
2. Tkachuk to OTT for either Stutzle OR Norris, 2023 first, 2024 2nd round pick.
Both trades are dependent upon Tkachuk signing a minimum 6 year extension with the acquiring club. |

I don't think that some of you know what is probably really happening with Tkachuk's situation right now.
By taking him to arbitration, the Flames essentially bought themselves more time to try to negotiate a long term agreement with Chucky. They now have until the date of his arbitration hearing (not yet announced, but will be sometime between July 27 and Aug 11) to negotiate a deal. If Chucky will not agree to a long term agreement by then, the Flames will trade him before the hearing and will get as much as they possibly can, with the team receiving him knowing that he is a UFA at the end of this upcoming season and he may be set on signing with St. Louis (or not - see Johnny Gaudreau). The Flames will NOT allow this to go to arbitration, because if they do they will only have Chucky until the end of the season and he becomes a UFA then and he walks for nothing, and they will not allow that to happen 2 years in a row. IF (and they won't) they did go to the arbitrator hearing, whatever the settlement was - the Flames could not trade him for a year - by that time he is a UFA. One of 2 things will happen by August 11 - option 1 is preferred by the Flames:
(1) Tkachuk signs a long term contract with the Flames - money will not be a problem - he will likely get the most from the Flames. Term is the issue - Flames want commitment long tern - who knows what Chucky wants.
(2) Tkachuk is traded by August 11 at the latest, but traded before his arb hearing takes place. Slight possibility of a "Sign and Trade"(long term) situation to make everything work easier, particularly if St. Louis is the trading partner.
The Blues would be playing a dangerous game if they operate on the assumption that they will just wait until UFA in one year and get him for nothing except $ - ask Philly or the Devils how that theory worked for them with Gaudreau |
