Tage only had 10 pp goals last year. Even if his 5v5 comes down he definitely has room to make it up there.

Skinner and tuch had a a lot of uncapitalized good scoring chances last year and olofsson had the most bipolar year I have ever seen any Sabre have maybe ever.

There’s reason to believe that those strong performances are not a 1 and done.

Sometimes young players can be drafted at one place, and without playing many games for that team, get moved as currency to another team to become part of that core group.

Krebs and Thompson are core players, as may be considered Jokiharu. What’s the true difference if they were desired and brought in before or after the draft?

Good work as always, Hank. They've opted for the most cost effective high potential team, thus all the ifs.

Glass half full, typically you don't actually need all of the "ifs" to break your way. Just a few of the really high upside ones doing so might be enough to make for a decent season.

You think about it, there wasn't a whole lot that broke the Sabres way in terms of ifs last season, but Tuch excelling in a larger role and Tage getting access to the water from space jam 1 was enough to push them outside the bottom 5 when everyone though they'd be worse than Arizona.

I suppose that's what the bet here is, which I don't mind on the surface, but I still feel like there are realistic options that would allow them to simultaneously protect their downside and set up future iterations of the team for success. Of course, those moves still carry risk but if you want to operate as a budget team and still convince fans to come back, you almost have to take those risks /eventually/. Why not actively search for it now?
