Wow!!!
I think nobody expected Florida.
Treliving certainly redeemed himself on this one.
Now trade Weegar to OTT for Thomson+1rst round pick, Huberdeau to NJ for Holtz+++ and we've got the retool well under way!! 👍👍👍 |

Hopefully they know what it'll take to extend Huberdeau tonight and he's cool with it. The biggest problem is they absolutely should be a playoff team again after that trade so trading Huberdeau at the deadline won't really be an option.
I can't believe Florida didn't just use that money to extend Huberdeau.
If no one else gets moved, Calgary might have the best defence group in the league. Unfortunately, last time we thought that before the season, it was a disaster. |

I'm really worried we're gonna expect to be uber competitive and end up losing Huberdeau and Weegar for nothing at year's end. Huberdeau takes JH's place in the lineup, but we're still a MK short. With no cap space to replace him after Bread is signed.
That would be a disaster and pretty much kill the franchise for years to come. We're better off trading them asap and accumulate young assets for a quick rebuild. |

Yes and no. I doubt Treliving makes the trade without some kind of indication that Huberdeau will stick around.
Even if they lose them for nothing, they're still up a first-round pick and another playoff run with this group will be fun. |

Great move by FLA. Huberdeau is 30 at the start of his next contract which will be enormous. They got a comparable player locked up who is 5 years younger. Weegar is a loss, for sure. But FLA now has 6.1mm in space to sign Kadri.

If an extension isn't announced within 3-4 days, he's gone. |

Calling it a great move is a pretty big stretch. Trading away your best offensive forward and face of the franchise for the past decade, plus your second-best defenseman, plus a first-round pick, plus a decent prospect is insane.

That 6.1M space was after they unloaded Huberdeau and Weegar, but before the Tkachuk number was announced. They over the cap by 4 now.

Never mind. I just saw the cap recalculation.
The face of the franchise? That wasn't a great decade. Tkachuk is what they needed in the playoffs. |

Saw that. Saw the cap figures when Tkachuk still was RFA and new deal wasn't factored in.

Considering the situation. Huge win for Calgary if they can get huberdeau and weegar signed. Rough week for you guys but that’s a big trade. |

They needed someone who flames out in the first game or two and then disappears for the rest of the series? He'll do wonders for them next year when he's fighting Ian Cole.

I highly doubt that Treliving is trading for players he isn't confident will want to stick around after the month he's had.

2025 1rst round pick is top 10 protected. That kinda sucks, since FLA could very well be very bad again in 2 years 😅
I would've liked to get our own Bowen Byram or Tim Stutzle. |

If that happens, doesn't it usually turn into an unprotected pick the following year?

Yeah i don't think so either. And I feel we're gonna end up losing both for nothing, and kill the franchise for years to come. |
