I think this is a great trade for both teams, nicely done. You’re still over the cap though, l believe? |

I believe they are over the cap. Some shedding will have to happen soon. |

HornQvist must be on the unload radar for Zito, clean up some cap.
Congrats to the Panthers, the GM is constantly trying to better this club.

Great trade. They saved some on the salary cap as both Huberdeau and Weeger wanted big raises. Tkachuk has tenacity and drives to the net. He adds grit and sandpaper to an otherwise soft team. Matt Ross called it when I ask who could we give them to get Tkachuk. |

Exactly my thoughts
I was totally guessing on the Huby thing because we knew he’d be looking for a monster contract…can’t believe it actually happened. Haha. |

Flames fan here .. you're going to Love Chucky! Think young Brad Marchand without the licking. Lol.. he has great hands, will drive his opponents nuts .. you'll hate his skating at times but he still ends up in the right place right time .. has a knack for between the legs goals in tight too .. |

Awesome!
You guys will dig Huby. Incredible talent that will feed his line mates. Can be frustrating at times because he’ll try and force impossible passes instead of ripping it on net, but certain a high end vision and hands.
Weegar is a good defenseman when he gets out of his own way in terms of thinking/trying to do too much. He’s best when reacting.

This is about as positive a spin on this deal as I think possible. Tkachuck was still a minus 6 in the playoffs. Man that's a lot to give a GM who was hooped and on a limited time frame. Was the first rounder even necessary? |

My jury on the trade is still out. Lets see if the formers resign with the flames and for what figure. I cant believe zito finally makes a move and basically breaks even with the cap situation instead of improving it. |

Ken Holland wanted to shake Matty’s hand after the 2nd round loss but no one had seen him since game 1 of the series.
He’ll be a fan favourite. |

Matt Ross: Big Trade: Cats Land Matthew Tkachuk for Huby,Weegar, Schwindt & Pick - Matt Ross
We're going to miss Matty no doubt. Phenomenal hockey IQ, incredible hand eye coordination. Goes to all the dirty areas & creates havoc. You will see some upset teams out there when they have to face him multiple times. Biggest complaints about him is in his own end he tries some fancy breakout passes & puts the puck on a platter for the opposition forecheck way too much. He's not a speed demon, but his hockey IQ & positioning makes up for that, but he's not one to be a possession type of player that will carry the puck into the offensive zone. Real good on the forecheck though. Gaudreau was the wizard for setting up possession in the offensive zone. Reason why Matty had such a monster year last year. Add Lindholm to that equation & they were one of the best lines in hockey.
Any ideas what Huberdeau is going to be looking at for a new deal? At least Calgary has the cap space to accommodate a healthy new deal for him. I think him & Lindholm are going to enjoy playing with each other & add Mangi or Tofolli & that should be a pretty darn good line. Most of us Flame fans are a little sensitive right now that players dont want to play in Calgary long term if they have a choice, so many of us havent ruled out we will be rebuilding yet. But at least we have more options now. I can maybe see Weegar getting flipped as we are pretty solid on that right side & Weegar would probably play on the 3rd pairing behind Tanev & Andersson. Although I think Weegar may just enjoy & thrive playing for Sutter. We shall soon see I guess. |

What an offseason. I'm glad im an older fan now and not as excitable as i was as a youth. This all would have been too much to handle. So many trades happening. I got to say I love the trade for both sides. I can see the rational each team has and why it works. Just woweee. |

My other fantasy trade now would be to trade Ekblad and Hornqvist for Brady Tkachuk. What powerhouse of a team the Panthers would have then. Both Tkachuk brothers are young and hungry. They forecheck and backcheck with such tenacity that you can have a mediocre defense and still look great. Forsling and Del Zotto are puck moving defensemen and Grudas is the butcher. I see more of a core in the one they had last year. |

I can see it. Zito made a deal. He's got to make some moves to jump Tampa and deal with the cap issues.
Tkachuk may very well be a key piece that puts us over the top.
Weegar is/was a very solid defenseman throughout the regular season. However, when the stakes were high in big games and playoffs, he tended to overthink, under-react, and generally make terrible plays resulting in game-defining big-time errors. Now, he's due for a big raise. I think the market values Weegar more than the Panthers fan base.
Huberdeau is the longest-tenured Panther and holds a lot of team records. He has been a cornerstone piece forever and a joy to watch play. But, he's about to roll over 30 on the old odometer and it's tough to see an 8-year deal with potentially diminishing returns in 3 years or so. Unfortunately, it's even harder to see Huberdeau suddenly rising to dominate playoff games in the next 3 years, when he's been a great disappearing act throughout his career. The passing through crowds and avoiding good shots is beginning to wear thin. And, he's ready to cash in big somewhere too. I really hate to see him go, but I can't see him getting #1 guy money as a #3-5 player (and worse in the playoffs).
The draft pick is what hurts in this deal, but it might have been necessary. I'm not sure that either Huberdeau or Weegar are ready to cut a long-term deal with Calgary. Both may want to take their talents to the free agency market next year.
Go Panthers! |

Florida is gonna love Tkachuk, and he'll certainly be a fan favorite in no time. Every player has their faults as a few earlier posters have outlined already, but his upside is much higher. Highly skilled and highly irritating to the opposition. We loved him in Cowtown and wish him all the best down in the Sunshine state. Very excited for Huberdeau to join the team and believe he'll be a perfect fit. I look forward to hear from him soon, and hope the excitement is mutual. |

Huberdeau is going to want nine to ten million. Weeger will want five. That adds up to fourteen to fifteen million and we got a great young star for nine and a half. Plus I don't know how Huberdeau will play for Sutter. He is a hard-nosed coach like Torts. I think Huberdeau will go free agency next year and want the Canadians to sign him. |
