Yes Calgary got 2 really good players soon to be UFAs in the deal for Tkachuk. What’s it’s say about the Flyers talent level and contractual obligations that they could not compete? |

Unfortunately, fans of all sports and teams suffer from extreme recency bias. It's just the way it is. |

it's kind of a sad state the team is in we just have to be bad for the next number of years to get out of this mess |

* The recent 10th anniversary of the Flyers signing Shea Weber to a massive 14-year, $110 million ($7.857 million AAV) offer sheet in the summer of 2012. In hindsight, was it a good or bad thing for Phliadelphia that the Nashville Predators matched? How might things have been different in the short-term and the long-term for the Flyers had Nashville failed to match?
I think if the Preds had it to do over again they would've probably taken the 4 1sts the Flyers would've owed them. Thankfully they were able to get out from that contract before he broke down but also had 10 years left on that monster deal at the time. PK Subban, who was on the other end of the Weber trade, had 6 years left on his contract and fell off an offensive cliff, relatively speaking, after 2 more years and was unloaded quickly.
Flyers would still be in the same situation with Weber being on IR the next 4 years instead of Ellis. Those 4 1sts turned into Morin, Sanheim, Provorov, and Rubstov. If Weber was on career ending LTIR and the Flyers didn't have Sanheim and Provorov, the Flyers would be even worse off on defense than they are now. |

I hear you but it's not like a whole lot of other clubs have a 115-point winger and a RH bonafide complementary top-pair defenseman -- impending UFAs or not -- to be able to trade.

you really think he's going to put up that many points again? |

two new inductees in the Flyers Hall , of course have to try some gimmick to sell tickets.
Carkner could throw. Him against Probert at the spectrum was a great long fight. |

No. But he's eminently capable of 80 to 90 points, especially in a contract drive year. |

I would still rather have him, the cap space, and the picks than Ristolainen.

But you’d also be trading all of those wonderful discussions around here on the player, too. Have to look at the entire picture. |

Eh, the resident geniuses would have another player to discuss.

As of now, my paper rankings have the Flyers finishing above the Devils; admittedly, by a hair’s width margin. Okay, okay….it’s not last place, boys, don’t let me down!

No question. With the exception of the Niskanen trade. Reverse every significant deal that Fletcher made and the Flyers are in a better place.

Frankly, I am having a hard time adjusting to the the downfall of the team these last two years in particular. Going from paper rankings with the potential to finish between 2-6 to finishing 7-8.

No question. I was thinking about how much damage was indirectly related to Vigneault and his inability to understand how to use certain players. And how he threw Hart under the bus etc.
At the time I thought it was a good choice for coach so it is what it is.

Yeah, that turned out to be a good trade but at the time I thought it was a superfluous deal. |

I don't think you can say that it was a bad trade but again, I'd rather have kept the draft picks.

Your dad the prior GM hindered the development of both Ivan and Sanheim, some may even say ruined, by throwing them to the wolves. At least Chuck did 1 right thing by recognizing this and acquired 2 good vets to help them along.
It was a good deal and funny you wont admit as much.
Draft and develop baby. Though lets keep all the good players and try to compete. That is a great strategy.
