Karine Hains: Lehkonen's Day with the Cup Artturi Lehkonen had his day with the Stanley Cup, shame it wasn’t as a Hab, but there’s an example of Habs’ development gone right.

or maybe Lehkonen's lack of finish to score goals was also a result of the habs' poor development system lol.. although he's proven himself to be quite a clutch player as well.

I think many of the prospects failures dont have to do with being rushed, but with Montreal coaching staff being total failures in how to utilize them properly. Every single prospect with offensive talent has always been given lesser minutes and 3rd-4th line duty. This all culminated in Dominque Ducharme and his horrible choices in coaching. He, while the worst, was one of many in a long line of out of touch coaches who had no concept of how to use skilled young players.

Even when he was drafted he was considered a good pick because he was basically a guaranteed NHLer. He had very good speed, played responsibly and could shoot well. I don't know, if people thought just because he was a second round pick that he had untapped offensive skills, I'm confused. He was drafted for and developed into a great 3rd liner.

agreed that coaching has probably been an important factor as well throughout the years, but I find your assessment of Ducharme's work is unfair. if you consider all of the circumstances surrounding last season (a poop ton of injuries, covid cases throughout the year, losing the team captain and #1 dman, losing your #1 goalie, etc.). it was pretty clear he was going to fail.

I know most fans just hate the guy and think he's incompetent, but that's an easy and overly simplified conclusion imho.

yeah I know, there's been a certain level of frustration watching him play because he did have a tendency to create numerous scoring opportunities while barely converting any of them, but I think generally speaking habs fans have come to appreciate the kind of player he is.

I have to agree to disagree on this my fellow fan. Ducharme was just a bad coach in my eyes. The cup run he had was a major redemption point for him for many, hence the extension, but I feel it can't be attributed to him. That team won despite him. His insistence at keeping young players out, his inability to shuffle line ups accordingly was only voided by the players laying it on the line for Price and Weber.

Yeah, covid played havoc with the lineup, but even when he had pieces he was not utilizing them. There was no system, no plan for offense. He frequently seemed to just order his guys to play a crippling defensive games, and not even a productive one. Just a system that seemed focused on getting the goalie to settle the puck, win a faceoff(LOL) and push the puck to the neutral zone. After that, usually a lone forward was allowed to pursue the puck and hope for a turn over while the rest played catch up.

Im sorry man, I just can't get behind this guy. I never liked him from the day he took over from Julien. I thought he was the wrong guy in so many ways. A "Julien light" without any of the experience and smarts.

oh it's all good, I'm not really expecting to convince anyone about this either, the general consensus across the fanbase being that he was simply incapable of doing the job. I don't necessarily consider myself a huge fan of his or anything, and I'm fully aware that his coaching decisions weren't always optimal, but personally I wouldn't discredit his experience and the success he's had as a coach prior to the NHL so quickly. hopefully for him he'll get a chance to prove himself elsewhere in the NHL, perhaps he isn't fit for that level but last year the whole team was in such a complete cluster(frank) that I wouldn't use that as a solid basis to objectively evaluate his capabilities. people blame a lot of last season's failures on him while giving him zero credit for getting to the stanley cup final in the previous one, I prefer a more nuanced perspective.

Its all perspective in the end, nuanced or not. But from mine, he gets no credit for the stanley cup playoffs because he did nothing to merit it. His impact was mostly negative on the flow of gameplay. When he was out with Covid the team performed better under Richardson, underscoring his detrimental presence. The team was willed forward despite his blunting of their success.

In the following season, when given the chance to put nay sayers to bed, he failed to show any creativity or evolution of the ad hoc system put into play the last year. Even when they were evidently out of the race and management had said they would leave him for the year, he performed so badly, and stunted development so much, that he forced managements hand ahead of time for him to be relieved. Which I believe they rationalized by mentioning the need for players to properly develop. There is very little positive I can find with his tenure.

yeah, I don't really understand this point of view, you're saying this as though he had an actually interesting roster to work with and hadn't lost any important pieces, while what was being put out on the ice was barely NHL calibre... even Scotty Bowman or Toe Blake wouldn't have won in that context. oh well, he's gone now so I guess you can sleep soundly, his awful coaching ways won't haunt you anymore loll

at least with McMahon you knew what you were getting into, now that he's gone there's no integrity to the sport anymore, it's just utter chaos.

oh, right, you don't abide to conventional solstices for some reason... anyway I'm glad I do, because I would be pretty depressed if this was the last day of summer already. I'm sure though kick would be very interested in your special calendar, the end of summer must be an ecstatic moment for him loll

j'ai aucune idée sérieux, je connais pas vraiment les jeunes prospects du côté des leafs, alors je suis pas tout à fait certain de la pertinence, mais ça semble un brin exagéré lol
