How would the team have space to sign anyone? Even if they trade Foegle they’ll have no space for any UFA. They only have 20 signed. That’ll likely mean a guy like Holloway is the only other addition to the roster even if they can trade Foegle and sign Macleod. |

I get it, but he does now have a better team than what got to the WCF. I guess he just lucked into it.

Does he? Maybe. Maybe not. Time will tell. It doesn’t really matter either way. |

Hey at least you have 6.3 million going on LTIR so when the deadline gets here you'll be able to add... uh... 200k in salary... |

Perhaps sellers if Campbell/Skinner crap the bed.
Trading just Foegele doesn't even give enough to have a full roster.
Varrie gets you closer, assuming no salary coming back. |

Lol. Signed a 30 year old goaltender with 120 career starts to 5x5 mil. Goaltending is not better at all. |

Yup, has to be a Barrie move coming. Best case scenario is you get a decent 3rd pair defensive D guy in return, but more likely they only get cap relief. Have to sign someone to fill his spot, like a Stone or Stralman.
Kane-McD-Yama
Hyman-Drai-JP
Holloway-RNH-Foegele
Janmark-McLeod-Ryan
Shore
Nurse-Ceci
Kulak-Bouchard
Broberg-Stone/Stralman
Koekkoek
Campbell
Skinner
If there is any way to move a Foegele, maybe you could bring in a Kessel or Stastny with that money. If you want to send down Shore (which they should), maybe you can get an Erod or Motte or Milano or Larsson for close to 1 mil for this season. Hard to say who might consider signing here. |

Regular season team might be able to be considered better, with a full year of Woodcroft, Kane, and Kulak. But we are essentially the same as the team the one that went to the WCF. I'm not going to heap any great expectations on Holloway, like some others might be doing. |

Who’s taking Barrie?? Who needs a one dimensional dman? Only one or two possible teams. Arizona is always a possibility but Barrie has a contract that has a salary higher than his cap hit which they typically avoid. Dallas maybe to replace Klingberg but they let him walk because they didn’t want a one dimensional guy. They don’t really need Barrie for the pp either. Detroit? Possibly? Not many others I could see having any interest at all or the space to do it. |

I'm not as down on Barrie's value as you, I suppose. Any team that was talking to the Klingberg camp should definitely consider Barrie as an option. Barrie at 4.5 is better than Klingberg at 7, and I don't think it is even close. Jersey gave up Ty Smith and a 3rd for Marino, who is getting paid 4.4 per, and I would almost consider him a young Barrie-light. As you said, Dallas and Detroit I think would be interesting landing spots. I think Ottawa would make good sense, if they can dump the Zaitsev contract (exact same 4.5 AAV). They could have 2 very lethal PP units out there with him on board. |

Barrie is reasonably priced for what he brings. I think you add a lower draft pick/benson, etc he can move. Hes solid on the PP and can work 5 on 5 in sheltered minutes to give you 18 min a night. Foegele may be tougher as Dman always seem in short supply. |

Hell no. But it is a big issue that he was the best GM the oilers have had since Sather. |

Wings have no need at all for Barrie and it would be a giant waste of money. Seider, Hronek and Lindstrom have the right side covered. Wings have 9 defensemen signed and even though Walman and Pysyk will start the season on LTIR, they have more than enough defensemen and that doesn't even include the possibility of prospects like Edvinsson or Johansson making the team.
I also doubt the Stars are interested since they have 7 dmen signed and most of their cap space will go to re-signing Oettinger and Robertson.
No team with cap space is going to do the Oilers a favor unless it comes with a 1st round pick and/or a top prospect because there are way too many teams that need to make cap room and very few teams that can take it without giving any back. Teams with cap space have all the leverage over the teams looking to make cap space. |

That must be why he had the shortest tenure of any GM since Sather.
