It's doesn't look great, but the Sharks were pretty much in a take what they could get situation. Goalies are hard to trade at the end of August since teams usually have things figured out by now. Even Vegas didn't really need him. They didn't improve in net. They just have options now.

Reimer had a better season, but he's 34 and wasn't all that good last year. Who's trading for that? There wasn't a bidding war going on for Hill or Reimer. You can keep saying they should've traded Reimer, but there has to be someone who wants him if you want to make a trade.

The only other option the Sharks had was to try and send one down after training camp and lose one of them for nothing or pay someone way too much to get in the way on the AHL team. A 4th round pick isn't so bad when you look at it that way.

Vegas was in desperate need of an NHL goalie and with limited cap space so the Sharks could have and should have driven a harder bargain for a higher draft pick.
However, Hill looked nervous in net last year and often over committed; sometimes by a little and sometimes by a lot and allowed several 2nd chance goals as a result. He is the one of the 3 goalies that I would have traded. Reimer played extremely well last year and was worn out at the end due to the lack of a competent backup. If Kaponnen can demonstrate the form he has shown in prior years, the goaltending won't be the problem. It will be the D Corp

How are they supposed to drive up the price when Hill isn't really an upgrade for them and no one else wants him? Hill's still going to have to have a good camp to avoid waivers.

Do you really not think that Grier didn't try and get a higher pick? Vegas could just wait and get a Hill calibre goalie, or even Hill, when teams have to send their third goalies down.

Its the right move. Reimer's value will be higher near the trade deadline and Kahkonen s the future unless he royally poops the bed
