It's a small gamble but could turn into a bargain sooner than later.
I like it. - Scabeh
Other than being drafted 3rd, what justifies the AAV and term? So far, his top NHL highlight is having his ankles broken by Makar.
If MTL is betting on a new environment and his draft position, then ok. And, I guess, the AAV is small enough to trade him as a reclamation projection if he doesn't pan out and retain up to 50% of his contract. Still, seems rich when MTL had all the control.
Jesus. Lots of money being thrown around at players that aren't quite proven yet this off-season. - Mahewman
That's a fair comment - but that IS the trend now. IF you want to sign top players for less money (which now is 7-9m) rather than paying top end $ (which is now 9-12m) then you need to sign them early.
I'll take Chabot at 8 over Seth Jones at 9.5.
I'll take Stutzle at 8.35m over John Tavares at 11 OR Tyler Seguin at 9.9.
I would've liked it at 8 but in a few years that may look like a VERY good deal, especially if he develops chemistry with DeBrincat and Giroux
