I'd rather see them make these proactive, forward-thinking decisions than reactionary panic moves. Regardless of how they play out, I think it's an improvement in philosophy |

Knowing a couple of the guys who work in the front office there now, I think you're going to see a fair bit more of this whole "It's a small gamble but the potential reward is enormous" type thing. |

Hank never scored a goal in the NHL... No contract for him. |

Nice Read Hank!! I don't mind this at all. It's a risk for both sides. It seems the Sabres are moving to the next step in there build. |

NHL?
I was lucky to have 10 career goals in 10 years playing house league hockey at the Nike base as a kid |

Exactly. The opposite of a Skinner contract |

Bill's had everyone other than Kumerow and Taiwan Jones return to practice. Even Benford was out there. |

This contract for Samuelsson really won't hurt the cap at all the for 4yrs and by then the cap should be about 98m and hopefully he has grown with Dahlin or the Sabres got a 1RD/LD and Samuelsson is at 2LD where he probably belongs. Even with his new Avv next year the Sabres are still almost 10m under the floor. |

His contract will murder the English language... and anyone who got in its way.

If I'm doing the AAV thing right, that is like a 4.28 AAV.
I think for his production right now, that's not terrible, at least defensively.
For crying out loud Risto's AAV is 5.1 until 2027. |

From the last blog…
I am oddly ok with it. Previously They’ve spent so much time kicking the can down the road and not committing to their kids, it’s nice to see them actually say, “you’re my dude”. It might be a bit of a risk vs. current production. But the kid has upside. So why not take the swing.
Now I’d like to see Dahlin with the long term deal. |

That’s if they have a couple big UFA splashes. The only RFAs will be Cozens and Asplund and unless Cozens explodes offensively, combined they make 8ish max. Even if they get Kane at like 11M, they rest of the roster should be ELCs, putting the figure at around 15M. It’s 2 years out when Dahlin and Power along with a slew of UFAs and lower tier RFAs that things might get tight. But we won’t know what that cap is til it’s here and if they go big game hunting for an 11M a year guy. |

Right. I don’t get why people like 89 are crying and angry.
Even if he’s a 2nd pairing d. Then he’s overpaid by what. 1 million dollars give or take?
That isn’t bad
I used Darnell nurse as an example. He isn’t great offensively and gets paid 9+ mil. That is what I would consider an overpayment |

It's interesting but in looking at players making $4.28 a year on D they're almost all FA's soon.
The only person at that rate with term is Brandon Carlo.
If we get MS until 2030 at the rate Brandon Carlo is in 2022 and he continues to develop into a solid defensive D, this contract will look great.
If he falls on his face, we're in a bad spot, but it's a celebration today! |

I went hunting to find a comparable right now and I'm OK with this contract. In a few years this is nothing.
It is a risk if he doesn't continue the growth curve, but I think bridge deals on pieces you know you want are going to be a thing of the past. |
