I've only seen a couple bits and pieces of the three games, so I have no way to understand this: How in the world can the defense be worse this year than last year ?

Love this question. Elvis was sick the first two games. Korpi has played. Tarasov is playing small. Gudbranson, Oliver, & Gaudreau are still getting adjusted to the new team. There’s team pressure internally to improve and public pressure for the success and expected chemistry between Johnny Jacket and Patty Laine. The defense is lagging. The chemistry isn’t there. The kids are still growing and developing. Might need another vet.

The Blue Jackets have implemented a new defensive system during training camp. Obviously it’s still a work in progress, but there is belief amongst the players and coaches that the new system will work well once everyone becomes comfortable with it.
