As excited as we were at the very start of the season, we have to ensure expectation management for this team: we're at least aseason away from being contenders for the SCPO, a team of seasoned/aged veterans and kids who need seasoning.
Last night was abysmal, as Jeremy documented so well. We have a very long way to go. Bergy showed he has the cops to be a stud, Raymond & Mo Sides are only in season 2, Ned's in his SECOND full season..... They need to grow, bond as a team. I'd compare their need to what military Special Forces teams do before they go out on a hit; they lock down and train their butts off, re-learn each other and learn the new guys, they absorb each other's jobs, and cross-train until they're experts in each other's fields. No distractions (imagine for the Wings, this would be bills, Families, cars, etc...). I'm not a professional athlete, but I do understand basic team-building dynamics. This team needs to learn each other, and develop a team mentality/identity. Until they do that, nights like last night will continue. With strong leadership, like The Captain & Larkin, this WILL happen. Just going to take team....I mean, TIME. |
