Hains: Quarterfinals Galore

thanks Karine, and also, happy new year!! (I don't I had wished you yet loll).

Unfortunately, Kris Letang will not be playing, not only is he injured but his father passed away unexpectedly yesterday, my thoughts are with him and his family at this trying time.

that really sucks, I hope for him his father didn't pass away because of sudden heart problems, that should be a huge red flag for him going forward if that's the case...

anyway, I hope there will be entertaining games to watch during the world juniors, because right now the habs kinda remind me of how pathetic they were last year, and that's way too depressing.

For me the Habs playing at that level does not help, but I would guess it's a holidays thing as well.

Add all the dudes who talk to you about our chances at this pick or that pick EVERYDAY with months to go to the season....why the (frank) would you want to come here?

I've been wondering the same thing ever since the season started lol.

currently there seem to be 2 very different ways of looking at it among the fan base, one part only has the draft in mind and wants them to simply lose as many games as possible, no matter how sad it is to see them play, the other would like to see the team show some pride and a decent effort every night, to avoid collapsing in a permanent losing culture. I understand both perspectives, but I'm definitely part of the latter group (I find it's kind of pathetic to be even remotely happy as a habs fan to see the team in such a miserable state lol).

hopefully the losing won't hurt the kids too much, cause there are a lot of them on the team already.

and the more they suck this season, the more chances are that they won't be that much better next season. They need to show progress

I imagine it would be annoying to see the same guys clamoring for the 1st to then argue with other people about who they should take first. Only to complain the pick is a bust 35 games in the next year

and both teams are on their way to making the playoffs, the kraken seem to have finally found a way to become relevant in the league. good for them, I thought it might take them forever to become competitive, the roster they had built through their expansion year had a lot less punch than Vegas.

i know that in this day and age it might be better for the flyers to be bad and get a high pick but when i watch them none of that crosses my mind and i root for them to win. otherwise i wouldn't be sitting and watching the game.

some people it's definitely a pathetic defense mechanism so they can keep letting people know that "it doesn't bother me that my team is bad. i'm good with this. i'll be back tomorrow to say the same thing.."

and also some people just bring it up to get under your skin now.

oh, talking about the actual picks themselves would be even more pointless, there's still way too much hockey to be played to have any serious mock draft conversations.

or they still get under your skin unintentionally with their attitude and the pride they have displaying it lol...

but yeah you're right, it's most definitely a defense mechanism for a lot of folks, it makes it seem as though nothing about the situation could ever affect them, although if the habs start winning a few games here and there again, some will definitely complain that they "can't even tank properly", which just makes me cringe and/or pisses me off.

to those people watching is about them. look at how much "i said this" and "i predicted that" we read on this website. and especially the "i know more than the coaches and GMs of these professional sports teams." to the rest of us it's about the team and watching and rooting for them. i don't feel any need to make sure everyone knows that i'm on board with the flyers sucking. i feel no need to call my friends or go online after a loss and let people know i approve.

I guess it's part of the coping process, sharing how happy you are to watch the team you're cheering for losing a bunch of games can become a way to lie to yourself and reaffirm this sense of being above all of it.
