It will be tough to see them both go, especially since the team will not get a 1st rounder for Garikov and a 2nd or 3rd for Nyquist (at least that's how much they are worth. Maybe it will be possible to enhance their value by dumping a young/marginal prospect in with them.
So, lets assume we trade these vets out, what do we get in return? Do we only get picks, or picks and players? If we only get picks, does that mean GMJK has to somehow sign FA's with the cap space the team gets by the trades, or does he turn 2023-24 into an even worse season by playing young players in the NHL that are overmatched like so many on the current roster are?
As of now there are only hard questions with bad answers. We have maybe 8-10 quality NHL players on the roster, the rest are young or marginal. Here's my list after the trades:
Jenner
Johnny Hockey
Laine
Werenski
Sillinger
Roslovic
Marchenko
Johnson
Kuraly
(offer suggestions if you think there are others on the list)
How in the world do you find 10-12 players to make this a playoff team? And please do not answer with "Well, if we pick #1 in the draft we will be a playoff team." If that was even close to true this team would not be the worst team in the league.

That’s where they’re valued. I don’t think they get their value either. Gavrikov has had a better season and has stepped up nicely, but isn’t a career top defender. Nyquist has been healthy and a point every other 2 or 3 games type of player. He’s also getting closer to 35 rather than 30.
