Treliving's going to be a seller (cellar?) this deadline. |

Love the Meier option but not sure they want to move Hanifin given the uncertainty around Tanev.
What about Meier (50% retained) and Karlsson 10% retained) for Huberdeau, Hanifin a 2023 1st and a prospect if required |

That’s a really good offer for Meier that you have there and I doubt many other teams will be able to beat that. That being said, there is big risk. 26yr old top 4 defensemen are hard to find. Especially one that is capable of putting up 45-50 points in Sutters defensive system. Meier is a young 30-40 goal scorer. He is most likely going to relish the $10M QO next season with the opportunity to sign for at least $8M aav after that if he can continue to score at that pace. The risk is that he may not resign if he (a) doesn’t feel like he can flourish in Sutters system and/or (b) just doesn’t like the exchange of scenery from Cali to Cal-gary. |

If I’m Grier. Take that offer all day.
That’s light years better than what Nucks got. |

GREAT job Trevor.
It is often said in trades involving multiple players and draft picks the team that gets the best player wins.
With the way the Canucks handled the Bruce Boudreau dismissal and this terrible deal for Horvat, Canuck fans must be shaking their heads in wonderment.
Not to worry about Pelletier. Puck possession numbers when he is on the ice are through the roof and this will translate its way to the score board. |

Thank you! Agreed on Pelletier. He’ll be putting up points in no time. |

Personally, I would pass on that for Maier. Not sure gutting 2 key components from your team for a new piece that we arent sure about how he will fit is the way to go.
I really like Pelts game & think he should be given lots of opportunity with Hubs & Kadri. As for D, still hearing murmurs that Kyllington may be back in Feb. But who knows, but if he does return & Tanev's injury isnt serious, to be able to send Stone back in the press box is equivalent to a decent trade deadline addition.
The player I would roll the dice on is I would package Phillips (I would say he is a better prospect than Raty) & our 2023 2nd for Bertuzzi. I think he would fit very nicely in our top 9 & possibly go well with Hubs & Kadri. I wouldnt be opposed to Mackay & a 5th for Poolparty but that would be a last choice type of thing in all honesty. |

The answer isn’t in a trade it’s from within. We have 3-4 prospects that deserve legitimate shots before looking outside the organization. Is t that why teams have the farm ?? |

Exactly! If they want to do some minor deals fine, but the players on the farm deserve/earned a shot. Do not trade our first round this year!! |

Agree. This year's draft is very deep.

Great blog Trevor.
I would go all in for Meir. This would give the Flames a pretty stellar two-way - top 6 for the foreseeable future. It would also take pressure off of Huberdeau as Dube and Lucic are not really producing where they need to be.
Sutter can get a lot out of a not-so-great defenceman, see Zadorov and Gudbranson. Zads has really improved and is ready to move into a top-4 role.
