Your reasoning on Monahan is sound, but the same reasoning applies to the other GM's considering him if he becomes FA. Monahan is looking at a 'prove it' deal......

Yes, but if he can try "prove it" on a better team, his chances of getting a solid deal after that would be much greater.

Losing all 4 west coast games would not be the end of the world.

In fact, it might just be what the doctor ordered... if they had good doctors....

Montreal will retain 50% of the remaining portion of Dadonov’s contract.

Taking a shot on a guy finding his game back in a new environment maybe worth it, instead of getting a 6th or 7th round pick

Yeah, worth a shot.

Dadonov was gone, one way or another. Converting that into any form of asset, even a work in progress, is a win for HuGo.

What I don't like is that the Habs just added 400K$ to their salary cap.

The rest, I don't care. I'm actually surprised they got something for Dadonov.

If they traded a low pick (3rd or 4th) and retained salary I might agree.

But Gurianov looked pretty decent a few years ago and maybe this works out. And if it does not, they let him walk as an RFA.

Those guys with 12 hour NHL trade deadline coverage on Friday are gonna be doing sock puppet shows to fill the dead air....

I guess that is in part because of the habs helping out in terms of cap space.

I know nothing about Gurianov, I think he was playing on the 4th line in DAL, I guess it's better than nothing but looking at his numbers I doubt he produces a whole lot more than what Dadonov was bringing in a struggling season.

do you mean the 2019-20 season, when he scored 20 goals? cuz other than that one he's been rather quiet, well in terms of goals at least, not sure if he's supposed to be more of a playmaker or a finisher...

If he makes the Habs worse from here on to the end of the season, it's not the end of the world either
