I am also anticipating another Dach trade using that pick… coupled with an existing Left-side DMan. I suggested Harris or Strubble (They did not play him that much for nothing…) or Edmonson…
So for me, the available parts are: Florida’s first round, later picks, Harris, Struble, Edmonson, Anderson…
I see a top 6 young talented forward…. What makes Dubois interesting, apart the French factor(like it or not…) is the size and versatility(can play both Center and Wing)…
I also agree with you that if Dubois is the return, it has to be with a reasonable LT extension…
But it can be any other target coming from left field…. Very hard to speculate on this but I may keep an eye on teams that will exit this year playoff too early at the taste of their fans(Toronto, Tampa, Edmonton, etc…)…. |

Hains: In Hainsight: What to Do with that Pick?
The Canadiens have got two first round picks as things stand and while it’s fairly obvious they’ll keep their own one, what should they do with the Florida Panthers’ one? - Karine Hains
I am leery of using a high pick + a top prospect in trading for PLD.
Mostly for the reason you have stated - seems unhappy and asked to be moved twice, likely wants more money than he is worth. The guy is a good hockey player, top 6 in any line up. But he is also not the type of player that carries a team.
I would rather roll the dice and use the pick (+ prospect) on someone else and then try to get PLD when he hits free agency.
If PLD never becomes a Hab, I am fine with that too.

other than PLD, others names that I throw out there like a god damn savage : Debrincat (may not stay in Ottawa), Boeser (may not stay in Vancouver) or Lafreniere (nobody wants him anymore?). |

If they trade the 1st rounder, will not be for someone with a big contract or close to free agency.
I also think they go out and get a goalie, but not for the first rounder.

Lafreniere would fit that bill. Will be a RFA not a UFA. Only 21. |

You wouldn't trade the 17th overall for Alexis Lafrenière?

No.
If you had to pick between PLD and Lafrenière, who would you pick?
Lafrenière is not even close to PLD as a player, and the suggestion of offering the same package is ridiculous.
Not sure Lafrenière will be a top 6 forward, tbh.

Why not both though?
And Lafrenière has steadily improved every year. I think he's gonna be fine.

PLD is 3 years older and just had his best year.
Dont get this mediocre comment at all, talking about a guy who made the league at 18.
IF mtl went after Dach, not sure why they would not go after a guy like Lafrenière, but whatever. |

If anything, the Rangers will keep him anyway.
That being said, I don't know all that much about their cap situation for next season and their need for cap space. That might come into play. |
