Karine Hains: In Hainsight: World Championships and Draft Update The World Championships have now kicked off and Samuel Montembeault backstopped Canada to a 6-0 shutout win yesterday, while the Leafs' elimination means the Canadiens 2nd 1st round pick just dropped to at least 29.

I have full confidence in Montembault being good enough.

He's no Carey Price, odds are we won't fine a gem like that for a while, but with a good team in front of him, he's no worse than the average goaltenders currently competing for the cup.

Martin McGuire and Dany Dubé were both saying that picking a goalie at 29th-32nd is probably the best move for the Habs. I guess we'll see.

We don’t need another Carey Price who will make a bad team better… We just need a very good goalie who will keep a very good team, very good…

Don’t pick a goalie in first round…. It makes no sense to me…

If the Habs do decide to use their late first for a goaltender, there are only 2 choices:

Trey Augustine, and Michael Hrabal.

Augustine is a very athletic goaltender and has the better stats in the USHL, he's not small but not big either at 6"1. Hrabal is a 6"6 monster that was amazing in the U18 tournament.

Personally, I'd wait a few rounds and grab Gajan, who impressed me alot during the WJC for Slovakia. He's likely to be available in the third round or even later.

I don't think Monty or Primeau are the answer as the #1 goalie in Montreal. I think they Monty will make an excellent #2 that can hold his own if the #1 goes down for a bit and play 30-35 games a year.

Primeau has not shown much progress in the last few years. Maybe he has another gear, but I do not think he is more than an AHL goalie or a #2 that plays 15-20 games (maybe) a year in the NHL.

The Habs need to add goalies in the system, that have the skills to perhaps be a true #1 goalie.

I will agree, we do not need another Price. We just need a slightly above average goalie (especially with the D-Corps we are building).

Last season, Montembault's numbers show a goaltender that's above average, but likely playing for a bad team.

And since we KNOW he had a bad team.... if he plays in a similar (or better) fashion next year, I think we can see him as our starter for the next few years.

But that doesn't mean we don't need to draft/develop/get depth at the goaltending position and look for an even better option.

seeing his former team reach the ECF while he didn't even make the playoffs with his new team must suck balls, but still he's probably relieved that Sutter is gone at least lol. CGY could potentially turn things around very quickly.

a new coach will help no doubt but Kadri's contract will hurt, who ever the coach is.

yeah, not sure how healthy he is and how many decent years he has left in the tank but he'll be 38 at the end of that contract, which definitely isn't ideal I agree.

Worst UFA signing of last season.

And everyone already knew it when it was signed.

probably why he didn't sign with the islanders, the Lamoriello regime proscribes having any facial hair...
