If Toronto trades Nylander they better be getting a top line RD that can play 22+ minutes per game back. Not sure what team has one that can be moved for Nylander. Karlsson and Jones are two that might be available, but both have NMCs and neither team should want Nylander for a rebuild.

Why is it rare that a shatty overpaid defenseman like Matt Dumba becomes available?

I could see Nylander going to Seattle. Shane Wright and their first would be a reasonable price, since Nylander could have tipped the balance if he'd played for them this year. They need some speed, finesse and offense to get to the finals. Leafs need a young center to nurture and bring into the top 6 in a couple of years.

That was my first reaction too. Dumba has regressed for years now. He's slow. His IQ is questionable. His $6M cap hit was an albatross. Minny is happy to let him walk and has shown no interest in extending him.

He isn't even the most appealing UFA d-men this year...Damon Severson is the same age as Dumba. Has outperformed him drastically over the last number of years. Gavrikov is a better option. So is Klingberg. And that is just this year. Let's go back over the last 3 or 4 years and see what calibre of UFA d-men were available...Pietrangelo, Dougie Hamilton, Adam Larsson, Krug, Brodie.
