as long as the player himself is not confused with the position he plays it's all good with me, as to avoid any awkward "experiments" between wingers and centers like the ones we've witnessed at times in the last few years on the habs roster lol. |

Habs would be stupid to pass on Michkov. 3 years is nothing. Could be like passing on Guy LaFleur back in the day. This guy will be a goal machine. Habs will soon regret passing on Wright don’t screw up 2 in a row. |

not impossible, but let's just say Wright's development isn't going all that great, things can change quickly but I doubt he becomes this superstar calibre player that haunts the habs with his amazing performances... |

I think he was a c throughout, don’t think i wrote he’s a winger anywhere did i? I refer to Leonard as a winger but not as Smith

It could be more than 3 years as Hughes himself has said. Habs need injection of talent too much to risk getting nothing in the end. And there’s no need to say it would be stupid. No one knows what will happen in the future and so far, passing on Wright doesn’t look like a mistake at all |

The fourth pick belongs to the San Jose Sharks and there are plenty of rumors that they are very interested in right winger Will Smith |

I feel like we have heard a lot more about some of the prospects than others. I read way more about Smith and the russian than let say Leonard or some prospects that mtl may end up picking at 5.
I dont think Smith will be there either and I get the same feeling as you that Hughes is not willing to deal with the russian situation that much. They did not even see him play this year and have yet to speak to him. |

impossible to know imo. even them probably don't know. depends who is still on the board at that time. let say a player ranked 15th on their list slips and is still there?
if not, yes, possible they package the pick to improve the team if there's a trade to be made like last year with Dach. not sure that will be the case, it took the 13th overall last year, not the 31st. big difference.
chances are they will make a pick though. |

If there is no reality to buying Michkov out of that 3 years in KHL, he is no longer an option.
If SJ is on the clock, what would they need to not take Smith ? If something can be worked out, and the Habs want Smith that badly, make the deal.
If Smith is gone, Leonard would be a great choice, and bring a skillset that is lacking on the current roster.
Reinbacher would be a great choice as well, and being RD is certainly worth noting.
I initially thought they would take Michkov, but it has been pointed out there is no chance to buy him out of KHL. So I now believe the pick will be Leonard. |

they could try to move up a few spots and flip it for an nhl ready player after that
they did not have the 13th overall pick last season, they had to trade Romanov to get it.
otherwise, I agree, the pick might be a bit too low to get something really good that could help mtl right away |

Good analysis and great read.
Exciting Russians that can score goals are hard to pass up.
Can't help but wonder if it is possible to buy out a Russian team's interest in a player.
Top NHL players are being paid in the range of $5m to $8m. coming off their original entry level deals. Is it possible for an NHL team to buy the release of an elite player from his Russian club?
