I would be shocked. If that is what management is selling, take the one year at $8.5M-$10M, and then sign as an UFA next year. Or request a sign and trade this year. I expect $9M, or more. And other teams would likely give more?

I think term is more important with Haula, and I think he'll take a pay cut to stay. I would put his contract at 2 or 3 years, 2.25-2.5M AAV.

Hopefully we see Timo get done prior to the draft and free agency. I think we'll see him come in at 8.75M on an 8 year deal

I’m not sold that NJ moves away from Graves, though it seems a lot of fans want him gone. If they do move on they’re putting a lot of faith in Nemec and Bahl. NJ already traded one defenseman with experience and familiarity with the system.

Realistically as long as the core contracts get figured out you can afford to lose depth pieces because you can always pick up other solid depth pieces through trade. So many teams are going to be in a cap crunch in general with the flat cap that you should be able to get somebody solid for little return.

Thats just the reality though. He doesnt have a spot, especially at the salary hes going to be getting(hes projected to get a ~5x5 deal). You really cant do that and put him on the 3rd pair. Siegs and Hughes are going to be ahead of him in the top 4, then you still have Bahl and Smith who are likely to split time in that 3rd pair spot. There's just not a spot for him, and it'd be incredibly short-sighted and quite dumb of Fitz to give him a long term deal. We already know the team is currently shopping his rights and fielding interest, it was reported multiple times.

A cheaper vet D will likely be brought in for 3RD, to cushion Nemec incase he isnt ready for a full time role(He'll get a taste of the NHL this year for sure, but hes also a slide candidate again, so it wouldnt be the worst thing in the world if he gets to cook in the AHL again). But Fitz has said multiple times they're expecting Nemec to push for that spot in camp.

Today on one of his shows Friedman seems to be indicating that former Canucks head coach Travis Green may be heading to NJ to as an assistant, replacing Brunette.

Confirmed now. Friedman says he had several other offers, among them believed to be Toronto and Calgary, but he chose NJ.

Really surprised they didn't give Brylin the opportunity for this role tbh.

I'm always pulling for Sarge, but Travis Green has some legit NHL coaching experience so I kind of get it. This is very similar to Tom Terrific's Andrew Burnette hire. Green can step in and run the entire team as head coach if need be.

Not sure what Green's chops are with a golf cart...

Hopefully Travis has some horrible drug addiction he's hiding that'll get uncovered.
