I'd wait at least another season before buying him out, if Dubois is gone, signed or traded elsewhere I would'nt buy him out at all |

Gally is not getting bought out, not yet. Let him play for a year or two, he might end up on LTIR if he keeps getting injured. He has 4yrs left on his deal...Habs can afford waiting 2yrs making the call.
In 2025, cap hit would be as follow:
2025-26: 1.75M
2026-27: 4.250
2027-28: 1.75M
2028-29: 1.75M
or wait in 2026
2026-27: 3.83M
2027-28: 1.33M |

The other interesting wrinkle is that there's a very low performance bonus (15K).
Which means two things:
1) The Canadiens know they'll be using LTIR this season (expect moves)
2) They don't want any carry-over into 2024-2025. |

Can enjoy the LTIR at the deadline when he blows out his knee again to take some bad contracts for picks |

that's worse case scenario, best case he is healthy at the TDL and they move him for a pick/prospect. |

no details but it is assumed no trade protection
Pierre LeBrun
@PierreVLeBrun
There's a small $15k games played bonus which could bring the deal to $2M total, but a bargain deal anyway which will make Monahan attractive at the trade deadline if he stays healthy |

Oh for sure.
Worst case scenario, he's good on the ice for a few games and gets injured all year and it's basically a nothing move.
Best case scenario, he's healthy, awesome, and we trade him for a nice haul.
Bestest case scenario, he goes back to his 80 point form and has become an invincible cyborg that cannot get injured again. He'd also be immortal and cannot age. |

Worstest case. He sucks AND is healthy and he injures Caufield shaking his hand at a dinner. |

Hains: In Hainsight: Canadiens’ Player Is 3rd Most Looked-up Buyout
Since Friday, the NHL Buyout window is open meaning that teams can buyout players for whom they have no use anymore or whose contract they dearly regret. - Karine Hains
I do not see them using buyouts until they know they will need the cap space, at least several years down the line. They can ride out some of these contracts for the next few years and not be saddled with long-term cap complications.
Habs do nto need cap space right now.
And hopefully Hugo are smart with the contracts they give out in the next few years to mitigate problems down the road.
