Came here to say the same thing (minus the Pens offer). Hawks thank you for doing business with them (although it does tie-up a retained salary slot for 4 years which may inhibit future moves- but still have 1 remaining to retain on DCat when they move him at the trade deadline).

Nevermind the fact that DeBrincat's camp has already disclosed the short list of franchises that he would sign an extension with. Chicago is not on the list. And Karlsson back to Ottawa where his family would be repeatedly asked about all the drama surrounding his departure. Why on earth would he waive a NMC to go back to Ottawa?

Ottawa is getting a good offensive defensemen.

Both Chicago and Ottawa were terrible in GA last year with Chicago ranking 5th worst and Ottawa ranking 13th worst. Both teams did not make the playoffs.
