Big mistake in 2018 drafting Jersperi Kotkaniemi instead of Brady Tkachuk.

Lots to consider, and they made a lot of terrible picks in the 80s, 90s, and 00s (https://www.thesportster..../#14-louis-leblanc---2009. ) but some recent contenders are:

2012 Galchenyuk over lots - Forsberg, Hertl, etc...
2015 Juulsen over Aho
2017 Poehling over Robertson (the good one)
2021 Mailloux

But the recent worst has got to be KK over Brady Tkachuk (or even Bouchard).

Ask this again after Michkov has played his first season. For now, Kk over Tkachuk.

I am pretty sure I will be forever fine with passing on Michkov, even if somehow manages to become a 100 point player.

They made the right pick going with Sergachev but then ruined it with the trade that we all know about. Same thing could be said about Mcdonagh. You can draft the right player and screw all of that with a dumb trade. You need to be aware about what you already have before chasing something that you lack.

Other than that, it has to be KK and-or Galchenyuk. You cant miss at 3rd overall. They did twice in less than 10 years.

If we drafted a good defenseman (top 4 or top 2), fans should be happy.

Michkov is a huge gamble and you cant miss at 5th overall. So....

Some teams passed more than once, and I think one team passed 4 times on him, so.... draft is a crapshoot, unless it is Sid or McDavid or the like.

You just hope you have as many hits as you have misses... for most teams, that is true. The same cannot be said for the Habs in the 30+ year pre-arrival of Hugo.

In 5 years from now, we can decide if HuGo is part of the continued problem or has found the solution.

At first, I was hesitant about their trading picks for guys like Dach and Newhook, but looking over players that were passed by many teams in previous drafts, having a player that looks like they may be an NHL player vs the chance at a player that might be in the NHL at some point, let alone have an impact, seems like an less riskier approach.
