Jan, you said he has not been able to make the transition to RW but I’m fairly certain he did really well there in the brief time he was given last season, at least according to the data and analytics nerds. Unless I dreamed that

2.3m is pretty much exactly what I was expecting us to resign him for, glad its finally over with that.

I think it was the season before last. He spent a solid chunk of time with Kreider and Zib on the right side and played quite respectably.

Unfortunately there was a revolving door at RW.

Fantastic deal!!
2 Rocket Richards, Calder and a Heart. More goals (299) than any other NHL players since 2016-17 season, including the likes of Ovi, McD, & Draisaitl, despite having a “down” year statistically on 2022-23. On top of that he….wait this is not the Auston Matthews signs contract extension blog??

Hardly, the Rangers dont have the hype train behind them that the Leafs have had the last 3-4 years. If anything, with the exception of this years playoffs, weve been playing above expectations.

He did show signs a few years ago but didn’t really get the chance last season despite a massive need there. To me, that’s either stubbornness by the coach or a perceived inability of the player to move there. More important is the need for his skating to improve. That’s where I hope his off-season work helped

I haven't ever seen any of season videos of him. They always seem to leak out for other players but odd none for LAF

I think its a great signing. in camp, he needs to earn the top 6 ice time he wants. if he can slot over at RW, that would be great. but have to be careful with that. this will all come down to the chemistry with other players and the system deployed by Laviolette. they have to prove that a potential 2nd line of Panarin, Chytl, Laf is not a defensive liability.

Also, i think that the rangers will trade Zac Jones unless he has a stellar camp and starts on the 3rd pair. he's worth a 2nd round pick IMO. he isnt cracking the top 4, Gustafson may be more consistent but with less upside.

getting a 2nd round pick for Zach Jones would be a coup, I'd love to believe he has that value

Good bit of work by all involved. Hopefully he can make the jump to RW. If not then the potential for this deal goes from good to right about average.

I agree on Jones. He needs to clear waivers to go to Hartford now, and Drury isn't taking that risk. New coach isn't' likely going to play him on the 3rd pairing with EG signed and a proven vet. Plus, as much as I like Schneider, he isn't capable yet of carrying a rookie on his pairing.

Yeah, I don't think they should trade him. Give him a legit NHL shot. QB PP2. For all the crap Kravtsov and Andersson didn't want to do, Jones has.

Miller-Fox
Lindgren-Trouba
Jones- Schneider.

(Mix and match however you see fit.)

really it depends on how much they use Gustafsson, and how comfortable Laviolette/Housley are with two very young guys as their 3rd pairing

if Gallant was still here I'd say no chance, but this is one of the biggest things to watch for in camp
