Miller and Smith are 2 signings that I can’t wrap my head around. It was bad enough he signed Smith. Then he signs Miller?!! I LOVE Fitz and believe he’s done an incredible job! But these 2 guys were huge swing and miss. Nemec is 10x the player both these guys are. Play the kid, send the other 2 to Utica.

So as expected, the entire lineup is pretty much locked in. The only real battle it seems was to be the 14th forward. Seems like only one of Tierney, Foote, and Thompson will be getting a spot(i would personally waive Lazar and Tierney to give Thompson and Foote those extra spots, but seems like Lazar isnt going anywhere).13 forwards and 7 D have essentially been locked in since July.

Hopefully we lose our one or both of our last 2 preseason games, real bad juju going undefeated in the games that don't matter.

Its an odd feeling to expect great things from this team right from the get go - it's been a long time.
The way the core has played says they are ready to hit the ground running.

He was never not going to Utica. His ELC can slide another year, and any defenseman he makes it over would need to clear waivers. They wont risk losing the depth. His defensive deficiencies have been exposed this preseason, especially in the Rangers game, he's been brutal without the puck. He'll need to work on that in the A. He will likely get games this year, but it's been expected he won't make the team. It's been the teams plan the whole time, and what they've been saying without literally saying it.

Small sample size but shout out to our recent 2nd round pick Lenni Hameenaho. He's come out on fire to start the Liiga season. Scored his league-leading 7th goal today in only 9 games. If he can improve his skating, theres so much to like about this kid. Could be a future middle-6 guy for us.

Brennan Othman would be a hard choice for me to send down if I was Laviolette. That kid looks legit.

Laf is never going to take that next step if NY keeps limiting him to 10-13 mins a night. He should be in the top 6 for a full year. NJ has been just as dumb with Holtz so far. Hopefully this year will be different.

They have tried him on RW it has not worked. They may have to bite the bullet and put kreider on 3rd LW and bump Laf up. Seems most comfortable there. He has not looked good in camp tho. Seems laazy which is an issue

Bettman says he told owners the current projection is to have the salary cap bump to between 87M and 88M for next season. That would give the Devils between 21.1M and 22.1M in cap space next summer. Main roster RFAs will be Mercer, Schmid, and McLeod(potentially Thompson/Foote as well, but they may no longer be here). UFAs will be Toffoli, Nosek, Miller, and Smith.

The devils dominated first 10 min. More of a tighter defensive game than I thought it would be rest of the way. Devils PP looks great. Favorites to win the metro followed. by the Canes
