That disallowed goal for a "kicking motion" was a joke. If anything, Cuylle turned his skate to most likely redirect the puck to his stick to take a shot. On top of that he was being spun around by Edmonton's defense. I say we start a fund raiser for the NHL review guys to get eye exams.

just saw this tidbit:
The NHL and Amazon announced they’re producing a documentary about when the New York Rangers tried to sign Joe Sakic away from the Colorado Avalanche with an offer sheet. Amazon and the league have collaborated in the past, producing All or Nothing: Toronto Maple Leafs — a behind-the-scenes, all-access look at the team during the 2020-21 season |

There's one about Alexandre Daigle too. I checked and it looks like it's only going to be on Amazon in Canada. You need ESPN+ in the States.

I agree. That was one I was positive wouldn't be overturned. I wonder what Toronto saw that made overturning the call on the ice conclusive. I certainly didn't see a distinct kicking motion.

The most irritating thing we’ve seen in awhile is the disallowed Cuylle goal. Thank god it didn’t cost us. But the funniest part and most infuriating part lol is the Calgary goal was WAIVED OFF IMMEDIATELY so they changed it to a goal…and last night was signaled a goal and then waived off.
You cannot make it up |

Any chance we see this lineup by January??
Kreider Zib Othmann
Panarin Chytil Lafreniere
Cuylle Trocheck Kakko
Vesey/Bonino/Goodrow/Wheeler/Pitlick
To me this is a wet dream. I realize the pressure on Othmann is pretty high in that spot, but I’m not sure Kakko wouldn’t be best served with Cuylle and Trocheck on a to die for forechecking 3rd line. It would be a beast. And I feel like Kakkos speed isn’t enough for Zib and Kreiders speed to keep up with them, and Othmann we know can skate faster
Idk just thinking out loud. I’m obsessed with this team already
Not sure if it’s up to date, Othmann has 2 G 1 A through 4 games. 17 pims😱he musta dropped the gloves. It’s just a matter of time for him. One injury he’s probably up doncha think?🤔 |

Great blog Jan!
Man, I for sure did not expect this start to the season. I was almost certain the team was going to sputter to start the year, barely staying above .500. Maybe some glaring issues as they learned and transitioned into a new system. Aside from the NSH game, there doesn't seem to be any of that. I'm glad I was wrong (so far). It seems everyone has really bought into Laviolette's system. You have to credit some of Laf's early success to Laviolette believing in the kid and giving him sustained, uninterrupted time in the top 6. And second PP time. Awesome to see and to see Laf make the most of it. Also, Laviolette's patience with lines is so refreshing.
This West Coast trip early in the season can really help bring this team together early, too. Come out of it 4-1 or better yet 5-0, and that confidence will be even more palpable than it already is |

That's a tough ask of Othmann. and you know that's not me knocking him. I agree with you, I'm not sure Kakko is ever going to be good enough to be 1st line NHL winger.
The option they have: Wheeler: Ugh. Kane: ugh. Othmann: hopefully cautious given 1st line RW is a tough ask for 20 year old rookie.
A guy I could see them kicking tires on is Anthony Duclair. |

It’s a good point that they are playing this well under Lavy so soon. I thought the same thing that it would take a bit. Even the CBJ game, they probably win that game if one of those goals for offside counted. Really took the wind out of their sails I bet. Anyway, one clunker out of 7 isn’t bad at all |

I get it with Othamnn. But opening night next year this is a very possible lineup, I’d just like to see it sooner😆
Duclair would be nice I agree. For a fit and coming home in a sense. That was probably tough trading him. He’s been a good NHLer for a bit now
Kane meh yea. It was fun last year with that, but I think the org would rather not. I’ll say I wish we had him fully healthy because I think it wouldn’t have been as much a negative that it turned out to be, but that ship has sailed and it’s ok! |

Kakko has been on the line for 7 games. He has not looked out of place. Don't forget Zibanejad has 0 goals too. I also tend to notice them being out with the toughest matchups. That is leaving the "2nd line" to get more favorable matchups. It's going to shift at some point when other teams realize they're going to keep getting roasted by Lafreniere and Panarin. Then Zib et al will be getting some more room etc.

Zib is an inconsistent starter some seasons. I have been frustrated with him at times but he doesn't look bad. But I do know that when he breaks out, it will be in bunches. |

That’s true. The other thing is a few are snake bit. Chytil too. So things should get progressively even better as the season goes along
80-2-0 let’s do it! |

I know there are going to be ups and downs to the season, but I am a lot less annoyed when they are down. The systems in place are obvious, and some of the players are thriving on it. |

Defensively they seem waaaaaay more structured back there under Lavy, and I guess Housley |

I just don't see a promotion to TOP LINE this season, WAY too soon! I realize this is an unpopular view, but there is a better chance you'll see Kane on our top line in January than Othmann.... |

Kakko has looked good up there. He is more of a 2nd line player. Issue is kreider and Zib were never really good 5v5. They all need to step up. othman probably replaces wheeler at some point
