Karine Hains: In Hainsight: Did Monahan Value Just Take a Bump The Flames traded Elias Lindholm to Vancouver and got quite the return, does that mean Monahan’s value just take a bump?

Depending on how Andrei Kuzmenko plays, might be another decent trade chip at next year's TDL.

I think Conroy did pretty good for a player he knows was not going to sign in Calgary and that the receiving team did not have the opportunity to discuss potential extensions/UFA status before the trade.

Vancouver top 6 looks really strong, some good depth.

Also, I initially read "bump" as "dump" and I was like... what???

The question was before this trade, can the Habs get a late first for Money?

Now some are asking, they can get a first and a prospect?

I read more than once that Monahan asked to be trade around the deadline before he signed to get back here

They will get 2 picks, a 1st and something in the 3-4 range.

Well I'm pretty sure everyone involved in him signing here knew what the plan was.

After that, a plan can change but I'm pretty sure they'll find a nice place to trade him.

Like the NYR.

I have a concern about the PWHL as it pertains to the Olympics/IIHF. Although there's some fumbly language about board pinning and intent, the PWHL does allow for body checking. However, to the best of my knowledge, IIHF-sanctioned women's hockey is non-check. I wonder if there would be a rough adjustment for PWHL players used to body checking having to reign that part in for tournaments.

tks Karine,
of course with Lindholm off the market the price for Monahan went up.

I read somewhere that Habs may have to retain to get a first. I call BS on that one. at 2M per, Monahan will count for 400k on the cap at the tdl. every single team in the league can afford him, except TOR and OTT.

oh I don't want them to hurry, I'm just not really excited about it because chances are the habs are gonna suck even more once he's gone, at least for a while, depending on the return.

What if they trade Monahan and Pearson (or Allen if comes down to it) and retain salary on Pearson or Allen.

Habs have ONE salary retention slot to use at this TDL, they get one back this summer (Edmundson). Petry counts until the summer of 2025.
