Toronto defintely needs a d-man. They already offered Nylander for Parayko and were turned down. I wonder if Nylander might be involved in Tanev deal? Include Markstrom for Samsonov and it would be a blockbuster.

Nylander was born in Calgary so there is a fit there.

Nylander would need to waive his nmc to do so.

I'm baffled by this year's love affair with a 34 year old journey man defenseman.
Why don't you try and get the Sens to convince Hamonic to waive his NMC ?

A year younger. 3 million cheaper. Probably cost you a stocked soda machine or less.
Obviously I'm not being completely serious but tell me how Tanev is better or not going to be a Giordano five minutes after signing with his new team. Heck John Merril is cheaper and younger than both of them. Same guy. Go ahead trade for him. You know what Tanev will be in two years? Gudbrandson. Let me go through capfriendly see if I can find another one of these guys. Justin Schulz maybe ?

Because "journeyman" is a significant mischaracterization. He's played on two teams in his 14 year career and has regularly been a 20+ minute/game player contributing positively to his team. He is six years younger and plays RD while Gio plays LD. Hamonic and Gudbranon have term so less flexibility to fit in. Schultz is the complete opposite type of RD. So none of your suggestions are comparable. Even at Tanev's age, he is a solid rental option as a defensive right handed dman that can play 2RD on a contender.

Fuk Treliving. I hope the Flames don’t send anyone to help him.
He’s busy enough turning a solid Leaf team into a bubble team.

Leafs need to sell off guys for picks/prospects and bring up some aHL guys for this run.. Reload in the summer via FA or trades.

This season they are not contenders and will just throw away assets for nothing. You can only go all in for so many years

7th in the conference and basically 3rd in the division (3 games at hand on TB).

How you figure they are not a contender?

Leafs are likely to play Boston or Florida in the first round and as presently constructed do not appear to have the upper hand against either. The competition presumably gets harder the further you advance. So no Leaf’s are not a contender.

Now you could call them an underdog. Underdog teams have been known to go on a Cinderella run from time time to time. But again, wouks be wise not to mistake them for a contender

I mentioned Savard as a viable TDL target for the Leafs at the 2023 TDL. Would have been wise to get him them instead of Schenn who walked away.

Always depends who goes into the playoffs hot or cold. Boston had their record year last year. Gone quickly. Toronto time and time again keep faultering. Avalanche has 1 cup in recent times. The best teams don’t always win Cups. Look at the Blues. My team. They. Shouldn’t have beaten the Bruins but they did. A 8 seed wildcard with enough depth can win the cup. It’s a grueling 2-3 months. Best health wise and depth team can very outplay a higher ranked. Now I’m just rambling. Driving in snow all damn day and now have a half a fifth in me. Ha ha. I wish there was hockey on tv tonight. I live in St. Louis. No. There is not.

Hard cap league in a sport with a lot of randomness. Would never say the SC winner isn't the best team. Just that as proven in any betting line, the NHL is the hardest sport to predict who is "best." Which is why when someone speaks condescendingly about what will happen in the playoffs, I always tell them if they're that confident put major money on it.

Not saying the SC winner isn’t the best team. Out of a 16 team tournament, the favorite going in isn’t always the one to end up hoisting Lord Stanley’s Chalice. When teams go in they might be hot or cold. Goalies go on hot streaks and win rounds. Could also be said they go cold and lose rounds. That’s why I love the playoffs. Never know what is going to happen.

Agreed anything can happen in the playoffs, but that isn’t what is being debated. Question is whether all things being equal are the Leafs contenders this year. To me from what I’ve seen the answer is NO.
They may have some crazy luck …Sammy or Woll gets insanely hot or Tkachuk, Barkov, and Bob are out of the lineup for the entire series. Anything is possible. But both team going in healthy, both teams playing to their best….hard to say Leafs are the better team. Same with Boston. If if Leafs are not the better team in either matchup for the first round itself how can we consider them a contender
