Ferdst
He was on fire offensively before he signed his contract.
He’s been mid since.
And any fires that are on him, were set by Keefe. Whom I suspect is getting annoyed with always having to waste time and energy starting fires. Especially since Nylander has 11.5 million reasons to be motivated already.

Players today are taught to stickcheck instead of bodycheck because it’s a better outcome.
Watch Matthews stickcheck - probably the best in the league. - Atomic Wedgie
Ya he’s unreal at it. All three are good at it. But guys still need to battle for pucks sometimes, and that outcome isn’t usually good, except for Matthews sometimes. |

Willie 4th in the league in takeaways. Imagine how good he would be if he actually battled. |

Hard pass
A win would be nice, and it might keep the #madetheplayoffsonceinthelast8seasons trolls at bay. |

Part of the definition for “defensive liability” is it not? lol |

No.
You don’t get to ignore the initial turn over of the puck, float back into your d-zone and strip someone unexpecting then get credit for being defensively reliable |

Agreed. I know it’s shocking but an over the hill guy in his late 30s doesn’t seem like anything special. |

Man, you do realize nobody takes your Nylander opinion seriously right? lol
Your hatred of the guy is rather amusing actually. You’re an equivalent to a clown in a circus when you talk about him |

I mean his takeaways are impressive. But only 28 giveaways. Playing with JT and Bert he always has the puck on his stick yet rarely gives it away. Almost always making a good play when he has it.

Yeah, the people criticizing him for going slow after the contract seem to fail to remember it was along with having two guys on his line that weren’t scoring at all. He’s an offensive winger and you cannot expect him to be rolling along when his two linemates are slumping BADLY. |

Playing with or without Matthews makes all the difference in the world. There is no comparison JT to AM

Nylander has improved every year with a big jump this season. The only current Leaf with more game winning goals is Matthews. While on that subject Matthews is only 5 GWG shy of Dave Keon's 63 and has played about half as many games. He'll probably pass Sundin as the all time leaf leader next season.

Sorry, I’m a Londoner so I’ve been saying that about him for quite a long time. I am more than happy I was wrong when I believed he wouldn’t succeed at a pro level with that over the top puck handling he does tho |

Yup, safe to say Matthews will be a future HoFer while with JT there won’t be a guarantee. Over 1000 points sure but he’s not even a PPG player career wise. |

I mean for a guy who doesn't care he sure has improved a lot over the years. People forget as a 16 year old he was considered by far the best player in the world his age. Probably never even had to think about defense until he played in WJs. It was tough sledding at first but he plugged on and at least now the defensive effort is there on a fairly consistent basis. Cannot question his back checking effort. He still has some learning to do with defensive zone coverage but you can see him communicating out there so he is likely giving it a good effort.
