I like that Conroy is stocking up on the D prospects.
Imagine that the 3rd turns into a 2nd if he signs with them? The equivalent of 3 2nd rounders would be pretty decent. |

For what its worth the Athletic ranks Grushnikov as the Stars #10 prospect.
10. Artyom Grushnikov, LHD, 20 (Texas Stars)
Grushnikov is a fascinating case study in that despite a statistical profile that virtually never translates to the NHL, he has always had some believers because of his skating, length and ability to defend. He’s got balanced posture and control in his skating, which he uses effectively gapping up. He’s an excellent backward skater. He’s got a disruptive stick and an ability to track and then close out physically (which hasn’t always been part of his game but has developed over time).
He’s got a pro build at 6-1 and a playing weight in the 190s. He has just enough poise and vision with the puck to advance play and occasionally involve himself (he started to activate more late in his junior career, and while that hasn’t continued in his rookie season in the AHL, I do think there are more opportunities for him to use his smooth skating and influence play than he realizes). He has defended well for a 20-year-old rookie in the AHL. Time will tell if his defending is high-end enough to carry him into a No. 6/7 role, but the Stars clearly have belief in him or they wouldn’t have drafted him in the second round, signed him and bypassed the ECHL for the AHL. |

He sounds like a project, should help the Wranglers when we call up Poirier |

Condition on the 3rd RD pick to the #Flames:
If Dallas advances to the Stanley Cup Final in the 2024 playoffs (wins three rounds). If Dallas does not win three rounds in the 2024 playoffs, then no additional pick is transferred from Dallas to Calgary. - Mashadar

Another head scratcher for me...
why not wait closer to the deadline....weren't multiple teams in on Tanev?
All the talk was it was going to take a 1st and a prospect.... Maybe a lower draft pick if the prospect was better
we;re getting a meh prospect and a 2nd rounder....the 3rd rounder becomes nothing unless they make the cup finals.
This seems like terrible return from a rookie GM unwilling to have teams outbid each other closer to the deadline. Dallas was desperate esp with their blueline injuries
AND we retained salary???

It does seem underwhelming given the stars will pick late in the 2nd round and the conditions on the 3rd. Gotta think the organisation feels Grushnikov is more than Meh |

I am guessing they are high on the Russian. Anyways, let’s see how it all plays out. I guess we are cheering for Van and Dallas in the Western final. |

You're too nice a guy haha. I'll be cheering for whoever plays them in the 1st round hahaha. Gotta make those picks better.
Was really hoping we could of gotten a 1st. I thought for sure Treliving was coughing up that 2024 1st for all the good it will do them with their window. Mistake in my view by Treliving, but whats new with that wiener. A 2nd & this kid who was a 2nd rounder isnt bad but not a homerun. Looks like teams just didnt want to cough up a 1st for a rental unless you make a hard effort to extend & that would mean overpaying a 34/35 year old to a multi year deal to save face giving up that 1st. We needed the young D in our pipeline because there are going to be openings in the very bear future. We'll be able to see this new kid on the Wranglers & get a pretty good feel for what we have.
Just glad this one is done. Next will be Hanifin now please. I hear his agent is being a ballbuster on a new deal with inquiring teams. So I expect a straight rental that will get us a similar package except the 2nd will probably be a 1st, even if its a 2026 1st from Tampa Bay. |

My glimmer of hope that this could really turn out in the Falanes favor is that Dallas has recently hit some home runs from the draft.

From listening to Conroy talk about the trade; it sounds like it took a lot to pry The Grusher out of the Dallas organization. Would put money on the Flames only entertaining offers from the Oilers for Tanev to raise the price. Hah. I bet they were the only team offering a first. |

Listening to the fan on my way home from work they made it sound like Grush was a target in a Tanev deal. They were hoping to get it up to a 1st+ Grush but no one had a first on the table nor one of their targets so they went with grush + a 2nd and forced the conditional to be added.
2 2nds essentially plus a potential 3rd isn't bad for a 36 year old UFA. Might they have gotten more if they waited... Sure. But he might have also gotten injured blocking a shot in practice and been untradable.
Didn't get the Flames Borque, Stankoven, or Johnston like many fans expected. But the kid they did get is supposed to replicate the guy they did move out. Just a couple years away. And got an extra asset on top. |

I feel confident that Conroy is no putz and has done his research. Everyone said the same in the Sharangovich trade and look how that has turned out. Let’s see the kid plays before we throw him under the bus. We’ve got 5 picks in the first 3 rounds, when was the last time that happened? Plus we’ll get another in the Hanifin trade.
Who goes in for Tanev? Oysterman or Dennis the Menace? |

Devils prospect, an unsigned goalie. It was a complicated trade that allowed the Stars to add Tanev with no salary coming with him. Great move by Nil |
