Per David Pagnotta
One player Maple Leafs have already expressed interest in re-signing is top-six forward Tyler Bertuzzi, who is eligible to become UFAs July 1.
....
Though not yet confirmed, the Leafs are also speculated to have expressed the same interest in keeping forward Max Domi,
....
TFP’s David Pagnotta contributed to this report.

If true ...then they're planning for one of the core4 to be off the books. Would be impossible to run it back and sign Bert and Domi, a goalie and improve the blue line. |

I agree.
He also said he believes NSH reached out to Toronto and said that if they are going to trade Marner to come and talk to them.

They wouldn't buy him out, can't he just retire and get paid $11M to coach?!?

Nice with the cap space they gain they can sign Phil Kessel to 800k sometime around Christmas. |

Me, 3 summers in a row!
I know you're kiddin' but maybe he does try to "run back the forwards" and magically add to his blueline/goaltending. I've said fat chance a few years in a row but that's exactly what they've tried.
This year does smell different though. - The Law
Honestly, I don't think he'll be able to move JT, MM, or MR. Next year is going to be very similar to this year unless Tree can find some diamonds in the rough to shore up the D. Tree had his hands tied by Dubas, and I think he has and will do about as well as anyone could. We'll see in the next few months. |

Leafs deploy workload management on Kessel. He’s on the roster every night but doesn’t show up until the 2nd intermission to get dressed, then give it all he has in the 3rd. He’ll play the opening shift of overtime, but that’s it. He will participate in shoot out. |

Mike Augello:
What Changes Should The Leafs Make? – Part I (John Tavares) - mikeinbuffalo
I made a list but you deleted it...
After July 1st signing bonus.
Leafs retain 25% on Tavares = 2.75 AAV dead cap hit.
To CHI or ANA: 50% of 8.25 (4.125 AAV), Kampf and a 2nd round pick.
*Or any other team willing to eat 4 AAV for cap floor reasons.
To Islanders: Tavares at 4.125 AAV (338K real dollars)
To Leafs: Cizikas (2.5 AAV)
If he feels like going back to where it all started the Islanders pay him next to nothing in real dollars and he provides 25 goals, 60 points. Pretty good deal for all 3 parties.
If he feels like being closer to Oakville, Buffalo is closer, still gets to play in the top-6 and the Leafs get a big body LW (Greenway @ 3 AAV). Any other depth player with a low cap hit or recovery of 2nd/3rd round picks would be acceptable.
A lot of other teams could fill in at this final landing spot if Tavares only costs 4.125 AAV against the cap. Probably a lot of contenders all over the league would be calling, making him offers to join them. If the Leafs can get back a depth player for less than 3 AAV, the deal works. Could also recover 2nd/3rd round picks from the right buyer if he wants to join a contender in the West for 1 season (Dallas, Vegas, Colorado, Edmonton).

ROR and Schenn coming back? - Whipper
ROR has zero trade protection.
Might just make sense to grab a Monahan or Stephenson in FA and get other assets from NSH.
Saros obviously the primary piece.
Lauzon is a nice D at 2M for 2 more years.
Molendyk is a really good D prospect.
Novak, Evangalista, Tomosino are nice throw in needle movers.
Lots of pieces to make it work. |

One little thing when it comes to Marner… if the leafs say they aren’t resigning him he needs to either give up an 8 year deal or agree to a movement elsewhere.
It’s the only hiccup there is and even that’s pretty severe. |

Also if a team signs Marner 8 years, and they wait until after noon on July 1st to make the trade the team only has to pay 750K next year.
Actual money over 9 years will be low. |

if they cant move JT full cap without giving up anything. then just keep him
a 30 goal 65 point C is valuable. and he had some bad puck luck last season.
less than a mil in Real $$ some teams can work with that

The Leafs are not letting Marner walk for nothing. That'd be the dumbest move imaginable. |

$775K but yes.
I don’t think $ in the millions is all that much to leaf ownership who are all billionaires however. If they want to do it money is a non issue. It’s do they want to or not. |

Marner says no to a resign or a trade the leafs don’t have the choice.
Keep that in mind this time around. |

How do they have any control over that? Give him whatever $$$ he wants?!?
